Storage Engineer
GovCIO is currently hiring for a Storage Engineer to support our US Coast Guard IPSS contract. The Storage Engineer will manage day-to-day operations of our storage environment and lead the migration from HPE 3PAR to NetApp. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring storage systems are performing optimally, handling support issues, and playing a critical role in the design, planning, and execution of our storage platform upgrade. This position is located within the United States and will be a fully remote. Responsibilities
Manage and support daily operations of enterprise storage systems, including HPE 3PAR, NetApp, and SAN fabric infrastructure. Monitor storage performance, capacity, and availability; troubleshoot and resolve issues proactively. Lead the planning and execution of the HPE 3PAR to NetApp migration, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations. Collaborate with application, database, and virtualization teams to align storage strategies with business requirements. Develop and maintain documentation related to storage configurations, policies, procedures, and architecture. Ensure data protection and disaster recovery compliance through backup and replication strategies. Work with vendors and support teams to resolve complex hardware/software issues. Apply firmware and software updates to storage infrastructure. Automate routine tasks using scripts and management tools where applicable. Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support as needed. Qualifications
Bachelor's with 8+ years (or commensurate experience) Required Skills and Experience Proven experience with HPE 3PAR and NetApp storage systems in a large enterprise environment. Strong understanding of storage protocols (iSCSI, FC, NFS, CIFS). Hands-on experience with SAN environments (e.g., Brocade, Cisco MDS). Familiarity with VMware, Windows, and Linux environments as they relate to storage provisioning. Experience managing and executing large-scale storage migrations. Ability to write clear and concise documentation. Preferred Skills and Experience Experience with ONTAP (NetApp's OS) and NetApp tools (SnapMirror, SnapVault, etc.). Scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, or Bash. Knowledge of backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Commvault, NetBackup). Relevant certifications (e.g., NCDA, HPE ASE, Brocade Certified Network Engineer).
