Apify
Developer Advocate
This is an in-person role rooted in the San Francisco Bay Area developer ecosystem. You'll be out in the field, attending meetups, connecting with partners, and representing Apify across the local community. To succeed in this role, you'll need to already be based in the Bay Area. Apify's mission is to make the web more programmable. Why? We believe that humans have better things to do than filling forms, compiling huge Excel sheets of copy-pasted data, or watching thousands of videos to determine whether they include a specific brand logo. Those are jobs for a machine. And just as in the real world we have tools that make our lives easier, we should have tools to make our lives easier on the web. Web automation has a profound impact. Our users automate service unsubscriptions to save people money, and they collect billions of rows of data from all over the world for AI training, protection of consumers, or finding lost children. We make it possible for AI chatbots to interact intelligently, and we're actively involved in developing novel ways to work with generative AI like ChatGPT. To support our mission, we're looking for a Developer Advocate to build and grow the Apify developer community in the Bay Area while engaging the broader developer ecosystem. You'll drive adoption with events, talks and technical content and act as a bridge to product and engineering to gather feedback and remove adoption friction. This is a key role within our Developer Relations and Community function. You'll work closely with the Head of Developer Relations and Community Managers, as well as cross-functionally, to plan and execute on local programs while aligning with broader community strategy and metrics. What You'll Be Working On
Be on the ground: attend local events, run meetups, and build relationships across the Bay Area developer community Create polished demos, sample apps, and starter kits that showcase building with Apify Design and deliver hands-on workshops, tutorials, and presentations at developer events Produce technical content: blog posts, tutorials, videos, and more Build partnerships with other tech companies to collaborate on common goals Run office hours and mentorship sessions both in-person and online Collect and synthesize developer feedback to inform product and DX priorities while collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, and Marketing Track impact: measure content and engagement performance and iterate on formats and topics They Say There Are No Perfect Candidates, But You Might Be The One If You Have
3+ years experience in Developer Advocacy, Developer Relations, or a similar public-facing developer role Strong hands-on development experience with JavaScript and/or Python Deep empathy for developers by understanding their pain points, creating helpful resources, and feeding insights back into product development Solid experience integrating AI tools and frameworks into developer workflows and demos Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and engagingly Excellent written and verbal communication skills with demonstrable comfort in public speaking Based in the Bay Area with the ability to attend in-person events and also travel within the US or internationally on occasion Self-starter who works well cross-functionally and can manage independent projects end-to-end What Would Be A Big Plus To Have
Direct experience with web automation, scraping, or crawling technologies Prior experience running meetups, workshops or hackathons with measurable outcomes Existing local (Bay Area) community connections or partnerships that can accelerate outreach A portfolio of demos, talks, or tutorials that demonstrate developer-facing work Prior open source contributor experience Why Should You Work At Apify
