Job Summary Counselors provide integrated student services to Saint Peter’s students, families, and staff within Enrollment Services. The role requires an in-depth understanding of institutional, federal, and state policies regulating financial aid, academic records, registration, and student account billing. Counselors possess broad knowledge of campus resources and services and serve as a vital resource for the university community. They provide outstanding customer service, use excellent problem‑solving skills, and exercise independent professional judgment when resolving diverse community issues. Counselors engage in sensitive conversations related to academic success and financial matters, serve on committees, participate in professional development, and provide campus and community outreach.
Responsibilities Counseling, Advising and Processing (80%)
Provide advising and problem‑solving for students, parents, staff, and other stakeholders.
Advise on FAFSA applications, verification, financial aid eligibility, disbursement, cost of attendance, and various aid types.
Counsel on financial aid, billing, and payments.
Advise on requirements for aid programs such as Pell, Federal work‑study, loans, and NJ State TAG awards.
Guide students on student aid availability, types, processing procedures, and consumer information.
Package students using federal, institutional, and state guidelines and ensure award letters are generated and processed on time.
Verify federal and institutional selections, correct financial information, and resolve discrepancies.
Resolve federal C‑flags related to citizenship and alien status.
Review academic progress and monitor changes affecting federal/state aid eligibility each semester.
Other duties as assigned.
Community Outreach & Other Duties as Assigned (10%)
Present orientations and related presentations to students, parents, and university staff.
Attend student and transfer orientations, parent orientations, and other events.
Serve on committees as needed.
Act as liaison to the Admission and Advisement departments.
Participate in events that may include evening and weekend hours.
Complete other duties as assigned.
Appeals & Petitions (10%)
Evaluate and complete financial aid appeals, academic progress appeals, and course-related reviews.
This position is a 35‑hour work week.
Hourly Range $27.47 – $32.97/hr
