Position Summary The sterilization technician is responsible for both clinical and administrative duties to help the practice run at optimal levels & always creating a five-star patient experience. This position is responsible for the cleanliness of the office and proper management of sterilization center in accordance with all OSHA and practice policy. Assisting doctors and providers in clinical care when needed & assisting the administrative team as needed.
Essential Functions
Manages the sterilization center: has a thorough understanding of and follows all infection control protocol according to CDC & OSHA laws and guidelines.
Process, package, and prepare all instruments and materials coming through sterilization center. This process should be timely, not allowing backup of critical instruments and in accordance with proper OSHA protocol.
Keeping of appropriate logs to maintain compliance.
Clean, disinfect and reset treatment rooms between patients to support clinical teams and keep schedule running on time.
Comprehensive cleaning of on and off-stage areas.
Assists team in the clinic when appropriate situations arise. This includes seeing patients under the age of 3 years old through seating the patient, obtaining a thorough and accurate health history, complete patient questionnaire, supporting the doctor in his needs throughout the appointment and providing the proper follow up and walkout support in accordance with all office standard operating procedures.
Maintain up to date equipment logs to properly document maintenance.
Laundry to be completed daily and in accordance with protocol.
Ensure all lab cases are correct & properly checked in.
Assist doctors and providers in clinical care when needed.
Assist the admin team when needed.
Perform routine weekly and monthly equipment maintenance in accordance with office protocols.
Contacting appropriate personnel for emergency maintenance of broken or malfunctioning equipment.
Maintaining bathrooms, hallways and common areas using daily and weekly checklists in accordance with office protocol
All floors - clinical, stairs and common areas shall be cleaned daily and in accordance with practice protocol.
Clinical spaces shall be kept clean, disinfected, and free of dust, debris and clutter.
All daily, weekly and monthly cleaning checklists shall be completed and documented in accordance with office protocol.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
This position requires standing 50%, sitting 50%.
There is moderate noise levels from dental and other laboratory equipment.
Office setting is a dental office, laboratory setting, and hospital setting.
Minimum lifting requirements of 35 pounds in order to transfer equipment and pack and unpack supplies.
Frequent bending, twisting, and position changes in order to examine and service patients.
Exceptional hand eye coordination and control in order to use dental implements for exams, to provide dentist assistance, and mixing and/or placing materials on dental tools, products, and in mouths.
Frequent client and interoffice personnel interaction. This position is chair-side to dentists and is heavily dependent on excellent customer interaction.
Near vision: the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer) as required for mixing and placing materials on tools and in mouths.
Potential occupational exposure to trace amounts of nitrous oxide and/or radiation.

Must be flexible and understand that job duties may change from time to time and that may be asked to help in other areas of the office.
Must excel in forward thinking in order to anticipate the needs of the doctor as well as the patient.
Must demonstrate active listening: giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
Must demonstrate good reading comprehension: understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
Must demonstrate excellent communication skills: talking to others to convey information effectively.
