Job Summary The Sanitation Coordinator serves as the subject matter expert of sanitation and is responsible for overseeing all sanitation operations in the creamery, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and hygiene standards to support production plans and plant start-up. The Sanitation Coordinator is expected to be an example of high‑quality workmanship and commitment to excellence through the support of a continuous improvement and customer‑focused culture. This role manages and maintains Clean‑in‑place (CIP) systems across multiple interdependent systems. The Sanitation Coordinator will also coordinate with Quality Assurance, Production, and Maintenance teams to align sanitation schedules with production goals. This position works Monday – Friday, 6 pm to 2 am.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates sanitation activities in all areas of the creamery.

Serves as an example for Team Members in all areas of performance, including attendance.

Ensures team members are following and complying with all company policies, procedures, and programs, including Safety, Quality, HACCP, and GMPs.

Takes responsibility for ensuring the total sanitation time aligns with production plans and supports a smooth start‑up.

Collaborates with team on Continuous Improvement initiatives associated with sanitation.

Responsible for wastewater monitoring to reduce waste and maintain compliance with State or Federal Governmental Agencies.

Operates, monitors, trains against, and maintains the creamery’s CIP systems, understanding the complex interdependence between the creamery operating systems.

Establishes, authors, reviews, and updates sanitation work instructions and ensures consistent and proper procedures are followed.

Performs equipment and CIP system inspections; devises action plans, takes necessary corrective action, and follows up within a timely fashion.

Performs testing, interprets and records results for sanitation validation including ATP testing and post‑sanitation swabbing.

Performs Sanitation Audits to ensure compliance including cleaning documentation, instructions, chemical strength, and titration checks.

Completes and verifies all documentation associated with essential job functions.

Maintains chemical inventory and places requisitions for sanitation chemicals and supplies.

Works closely with chemical vendors to ensure proper sanitation, monitoring, and maintenance of chemical equipment.

Coordinates with the Maintenance team for repair of sanitation and cheese‑making equipment.

Suggests schedule changes to facilitate extended sanitation events to supervisor.

Participates as a member of HACCP, Food Defense and Safety teams.

Optimizes manual and CIP sanitation to minimize chemical and water use.

Inspects, changes, rebuilds sanitation equipment including pumps, valves, and hoses.

Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves sanitation issues.

Assists in manual cleaning in all areas of sanitation.

Provides support and is trained in other production areas as needed.

Immediately reports any food safety or quality issues to management or other authorized individuals.

Direct Reports This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities, although the position is required to coordinate and direct the work of Team Members performing Sanitation and participates in the probationary and annual performance review process.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; associate’s degree in food science, dairy science, or related field preferred.

2–3 years of experience in sanitation and/or food manufacturing required.

Working familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and HMIs.

Physical Demands Requires standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing. Must be able to lift up to 65 lb. Required vision: close and peripheral vision, ability to adjust focus. Other demands include exposure to weather conditions, confined spaces, moving mechanical parts, and handling chemicals. Ear protection required.

Working Environment Exposure to outside weather, extreme heat or cold, confined or restrictive work areas, moving mechanical parts, and chemicals. Ear protection required. Flexibility in scheduling and occasional overtime; weekend coverage required.

Tools and Equipment Used Computers, calculators, fax machines, copiers, chemical testing kits, thermometers, recording charts, CIP systems, pH meters, utensils, steam hoses, water mixers, and scales.

PPE Required Safety goggles, chemical gloves, lab coat, hearing protection. Additional recommended PPE: face shield, chemical‑resistant apron, steel‑toe shoes.
