Facilities Management (FM) is offering an exciting opportunity for a

Historic Facilities Coordinator

to support the department’s goal of providing high quality, cost‑effective, and reliable services to University Central Grounds Zone customers and residents. The Historic Facilities Coordinator partners to provide stewardship of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the prestigious Rotunda and Academical Village, as well as a dense footprint of active educational buildings. As part of the Central Grounds Zone team, this role is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and ensuring the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance within the University’s historic facilities. The role ensures that all work aligns with historic preservation standards while meeting the functional needs of the buildings and their occupants.

This position plays a key role in maintaining the quality, safety, and reliability of services provided to the University community, combining modern maintenance practices with historic preservation principles to sustain and enhance the University’s historic infrastructure.

Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia’s wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, FM is responsible for the daily operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA’s buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, as well as other university‑owned and leased properties.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor and assess facility conditions in accordance with internal and/or regulatory standards for operational efficiency and safety.

Coordinate and schedule maintenance, repairs, and special events for historic facilities, interfacing with a combination of internal skilled trades staff, external contractors, and faculty, staff, and student stakeholders.

Assist managers and supervisors with planning, budgeting, executing, and tracking activities to ensure timely completion of maintenance, repair and minor renovation or project work.

Maintain compliance with safety and historic preservation standards in all maintenance activities.

Build and maintain strong relationships with facility users, vendors, and service providers.

Foster positive customer relations by understanding needs, developing a meaningful approach to service, resolving issues that may arise and ensuring high‑quality service delivery.

Maintain accurate records for maintenance work orders, purchasing, and scheduling.

Required Qualifications

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an operations setting with direct customer interface required.

Licensure:

Valid driver’s license required with a zero or positive points balance and at least 2 years of driving history.

Preferred Qualifications

Direct trades experience, including licensure, is strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of facility maintenance, historic preservation, and/or renovation practices.

Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Proficiency with computers and maintenance management systems.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

Physical Demands The employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, stoop, bend, squat, lift, pull, and use both hands for repetitive tasks (including overhead work). Must have normal vision and hearing (correctable), and in some areas, color vision and sense of smell.

Anticipated Compensation $28 – $32 per hour; based on experience and qualifications.
