VDOT IT Customer Relationship Manager
Contractor position. Requires local candidates due to onsite requirement. First round of interviews via Teams, second round onsite. Candidates must be able to interview onsite. Work schedule is hybrid: onsite 2 days a week with 3 remote days. The contract will be extended beyond 6/30/26, likely by 6‑12+ months.
Contractor will be responsible for purchasing parking through VDOT’s Parking Management Office or procuring their own parking.
Ideal candidates will be strategic thinkers, foster positive interactions, build and preserve trusting relationships with assigned business partners throughout the agency. They will also manage escalations for work within the service, product and project delivery pipelines.
Position Responsibilities
Meet with and communicate directly with agency leadership up to the executive level on a routine basis.
Work closely with IT leadership to ensure successful and continuous delivery of all products and services by ITD.
Act as a point of focus/resource for IT management, escalations, and coordination with districts.
Partner with business and Enterprise Architecture to identify product lines and develop a multi‑year business capability roadmap.
Build and maintain relationships with assigned business partners.
Interface with project managers, service and operations managers to coordinate work, prioritize requests, and manage escalations for assigned divisions.
Identify opportunities for new services, service improvements, and technical innovation to meet business needs.
Oversee management of business partner expectations related to ITD engagement and service or product delivery.
Manage escalations related to technology procurements, projects and service delivery requests.
Identify, champion and communicate customer needs.
Consult and collaborate with ITD teams managing production operations and the strategic direction for systems owned by assigned business partners.
Support continued compliance with VDOT and VITA policies, standards, and guidelines.
Desired Skills and Experience
Bachelor’s degree or six years or more of related experience in an information technology role.
Experience in SDLC, Agile methodology, technology procurements.
Strong communication skills in writing, speaking and presenting with leadership at all levels.
Ability to listen, build rapport and develop credibility as a strategic partner.
Skilled in conflict negotiation and resolution; experience dealing with difficult customers.
Team orientation with focus on purpose, value and results.
Strategy to execution mindset.
Experience in product line planning, development and management.
Understanding of VDOT’s organizational structure including districts and central office.
Global Candidate Requirements
Candidate must physically reside within the United States for the duration of assignment.
Candidate must be available to interview onsite in Mechanicsville, VA, if requested (Required).
Candidate must be available to work onsite in Richmond, VA at least 2 days per week (Required).
Candidate must provide email address and permanent residential city and state.
Candidate must be comfortable working with upper level leadership.
Candidate must have prior experience working in an IT role.
BRMP certification via the BRM Institute is preferred; upload certification if available.
Indicate earliest possible start date after an offer.
Work Arrangement Hybrid – 2 onsite, 3 remote days per week.
