Network Engineer Senior
The Network Engineer designs, plans, builds, and maintains secure communications networks supporting enterprise and hybrid environments. Configures routers and switches, firewalls and IPSec-based VPN solutions for LAN, WAN, and remote-access connectivity. Coordinates LAN/WAN hardware/software improvements and/or enhancements. Ensures network reliability, scalability, and compliance while leveraging automation and emerging technologies to enhance operational efficiency and support mission critical business operations. The Network Engineer Senior must have: Education: Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science Experience: 8-10+ years of related experience Certifications: DoD 8570.01 (Security + or higher), Cisco CCNP (active) required Certifications: Cisco CCNP Enterprise, CCNP Security, DevNet, RHCE, EHCSA, or Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD) preferred Security clearance level: TS/SCI US citizenship required Job Family: IT Infrastructure and Operations Skills: Cisco IOS, Cisco Routers and Switches, Internet Protocol Security (IPsec), Switching Protocols, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) Experience: 8 + years of related experience US Citizenship Required: Yes Job Description: The Network Engineer designs, plans, builds, and maintains secure communications networks supporting enterprise and hybrid environments. The Network Engineer must: Display a comprehensive understanding of routing and switching protocols to include but not limited to OSPF, BGP and EIGRP Have an in-depth understanding of Cisco IOS platforms and practical knowledge of networking topologies (LAN, WAN) and hands on experience with IPSec VPNs Experience with containerized environments such as Kubernetes or RedHat OpenShift preferred Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g., SolarWinds or other network monitoring tools) Design, implement, and maintain complex LAN/WAN infrastructures, including routing, switching, and secure VPN connectivity Ensure network integrity, compliance with security policies, and proper backup and recovery processes Understanding of hybrid and on-prem networking concepts with exposure to multi-cloud or Kubernetes based integrations (AWS, Azure, GCP) preferred Proven ability to analyze, diagnose, and resolve complex performance and connectivity issues Proven experience with Cisco Secure Firewalls (FTD/FMC), ISE, and 802.1x authentication, including device access troubleshooting on network switches Evaluate and integrate new communications technologies to enhance network performance, security, and scalability Maintain current knowledge of evolving network and automation technologies Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and provide mentorship when needed Linux system administration (RedHat Enterprise) preferred Configure and administer Cisco routers, switches, secure firewalls, and ISE for identity-based access control and 802.1x authentication Develop and maintain YAML-based configuration templates and automation scripts to streamline network provisioning and policy deployment preferred Infrastructure automation, YAML configuration management, or DevNet style workflow integration preferred Thorough understanding and practical expertise with Intelligence Community Directive 503 (ICD 503), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Risk Management Framework, or CIS (Center for Internet Security) controls (preferred) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Travel Required: Less than 10% Telecommuting Options: Onsite Work Location: USA FL MacDill AFB Additional Work Locations: Total Rewards at GDIT: Our benefits package for all US-based employees includes a variety of medical plan options, some with Health Savings Accounts, dental plan options, a vision plan, and a 401(k) plan offering the ability to contribute both pre and post-tax dollars up to the IRS annual limits and receive a company match.
