Research Associate
– Fenway Community Health, Boston, MA (Part‑time)
Job Type:
Part‑time, 15 hours/week, Hybrid (remote and in‑person) with first shift Monday–Friday. Occasional evening/weekend hours may be required.
Description The Fenway Institute (TFI) research department seeks a Research Associate to support the implementation of research studies under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, with reporting to the Associate Director of Research Operations.
Representative Duties Study Preparation and Administrative/Outreach Implementation
Assist with study startup: prepare study documents (protocols, consent forms, case report forms, participant files, regulatory binders, visit checklists).
Regulatory compliance: ensure IRB submissions and informed consent documentation meet regulatory requirements.
Participant recruitment: review records, identify recruitment opportunities, conduct outreach, develop recruitment materials, and maintain recruitment calendars, databases, and documentation.
Participant Interaction and Data Collection
Obtain informed consent by explaining study procedures, risks, and benefits.
Conduct study visits: schedule visits, maintain calendars, confirm eligibility, administer surveys, schedule follow‑ups, and complete visit notes.
Monitor participant safety: report non‑compliance, adverse events, and unanticipated problems to research leads.
Data Management and Documentation
Maintain accurate records in paper and electronic databases (REDCap, EDC systems). Keep source documents organized.
Assist with data cleaning and audit preparation: perform routine QA/QI activities, respond to data queries.
Apply Good Clinical Practice (GCP), TFI SOPs, and study protocol guidelines for confidentiality and ethical accountability.
Communication and Collaboration
Liaise with investigators, sponsors, IRBs, and study monitors; share study information with Fenway Health staff, patients, and community.
Attend team and departmental meetings; provide updates and resolve logistical or compliance issues.
Support training and onboarding of new research assistants or interns.
Administrative and Logistical Support
Manage supplies and equipment: track, maintain, and order study‑specific materials.
Schedule appointments and organize calendars for participant visits and team availability.
Assist with study closeout: archive documents per protocol and regulatory requirements.
Help develop research projects and disseminate findings; locate articles via library and electronic databases; provide administrative support for proposals or manuscripts.
Monitor policies affecting participant population; maintain knowledge of state and federal regulations; complete relevant trainings.
Other Related Duties as Required As assigned by leadership.

Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development.
Maintain professional competence and continuing education records.

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or higher in a field related to social science research.
Excellent communication skills and experience working with diverse communities at risk for HIV (e.g., sexual minority men, transgender individuals, BIPOC).
Commitment to participating in Fenway’s anti‑racist initiatives and promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated responsibility for assignments and deadlines; teamwork skills.
1–2 years of human subjects research experience.
Detail‑oriented.
Computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Familiarity with database software (SPSS, Excel).
This is a union position in the Fenway Health bargaining unit represented by 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.
