Position summary:
A career‑minded Hydraulic Modeler, looking towards advancement, is needed to join JMT's fast growing Water/Wastewater consultant engineering practice. The selected employee will be responsible for leading engineering hydraulic analysis, planning, and design for a variety of water and sewer infrastructure projects. The selected candidate will become part of an established team of engineers working on exciting sanitary sewer collection system and potable water distribution system hydraulic modeling projects in the Mid‑Atlantic region.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Perform computer modeling of hydraulic infrastructure including water distribution systems and sanitary sewer collection systems
Prepare calculations, hydraulic models, technical reports, and other deliverables for utility conveyance and infrastructure related projects
Complete hydraulic modeling projects using advanced discipline knowledge, client specifications, and industry guidelines using required modeling software and GIS tools
Create, update, calibrate, and verify hydraulic models
Perform engineering analysis in support of water and sewer master planning projects
Assess and identify collection/distribution system performance deficiencies, predict future system constraints, and develop solutions for CIP planning and design projects
Support overall Project Manager by executing project management responsibilities for hydraulic modeling assignments, including developing hours estimates, scope, etc.
Provide modeling and design status updates to the Project Manager
Track the budgets of modeling tasks
Execute quality control and quality assurance plans as provided by the PMP for project, and provide quality control review of project documents
Delegate project tasks to project team members
Coach/mentor design staff through the hydraulic modeling process
Provide consultative services to the clients, including attending client meetings, providing timely updates, and developing appropriate solutions to meet their expectations
Nonessential functions and responsibilities
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering from an ABET accredited engineering program
8 or 10+ years' experience in specialized discipline
Proficient with hydraulic modeling, transient analyses, data management, and related software packages (e.g., InfoWorks ICM, InfoWater, WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, etc.)
Written and verbal communication skills
Presentation skills
Qualifications preferred
Experience working with local clients
Professional Engineer License
Working Conditions Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
