Position Summary We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join our interdisciplinary team focused on developing polymers for antimicrobial applications. The successful candidate will design and synthesize novel polymeric materials and lead efforts to evaluate their antimicrobial efficacy. Key responsibilities include polymer preparation, in‑vitro cell assays, and biofilm studies. Experience working with microbial pathogens and characterizing polymer‑bacteria interactions is essential. Familiarity with in‑vivo animal models for infection and treatment studies is desirable. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to translational research at the interface of chemistry, microbiology, and biomedical science.
Salary and Work Hours
Advertised Salary: Commensurate with qualifications – $55,000
Full time, 37.5 hours per week; Monday–Friday, 8:30 am–5:00 pm (flexible schedule)
Job Duties
Design and synthesis of novel polymeric materials for antimicrobial applications.
Conduct in‑vitro cell assays and biofilm studies to evaluate antimicrobial efficacy.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (chemistry, microbiology, modeling).
Prepare small molecules and monomers at milligram to gram scale and perform controlled polymerization.
Characterize compounds by spectroscopies and examine interactions with cells.
Manage laboratory safety practices, research conduct, and laboratory management.
Write proposals, research reports, and scientific manuscripts; present findings to team members and at conferences.
Support the SmartState Center and its facilities, including resource planning and facility maintenance.
Minimum Required Education & Experience
Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in the field of research specialty.
Preferred Qualifications
Ph.D. in polymer chemistry, materials science, microbiology, or a related field with expertise in antimicrobial research.
Experience with microbial pathogens and polymer‑bacteria interaction studies.
Familiarity with in‑vivo infection and treatment models.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of organic polymer preparation and antimicrobial cell assays.
Proficiency in safety practices, research conduct, and laboratory management.
