Temporary Engineering Research Assistant at the UNC Highway Safety Research Center (HSRC) in Chapel Hill, NC.
Position Type: Temporary Staff (SHRA), Part-Time
Hours: 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM
Salary: $25.00 – $28.00 per hour
Start Date: 11/03/2025; Duration: 6 months, not to exceed 11 months
Location: North Carolina, US (Chapel Hill)
Position Summary The Temporary Engineering Research Assistant will assist in transportation safety research through data analysis and statistical methods. Tasks include compiling and preparing data, conducting preliminary analyses, performing regression modeling, field reviews, writing technical reports, and preparing presentations. The role may involve multiple projects and requires adaptability to changing project needs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the assignment (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Coursework in civil engineering or equivalent and related work experience.
Experience working with databases and statistical programs such as R or SAS.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Coursework emphasizing transportation engineering.
Experience with modeling software such as VISSIM or Syncro.
Essential Skills
Experience working with crash data, roadway characteristics data, speed and/or volume data.
Conceptual knowledge of crash modification factors.
Comfortable working independently and communicating effectively with others.
