Overnight Receiver at UNFI Canada

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 1am Start

Overview

In this essential role, you will work directly with the inventory department, supervisors, and leads to verify quantities of product received and loaded onto trucks at the distribution centers. This role has a strong understanding of products that we carry, all receiving/loading procedures and back stock. This team ensures that products are in the proper staging locations so we can efficiently receive and load trucks with products accurately while maintaining a clean and safe work area.

The Receiver position works closely with the Inventory Control department to ensure accuracy of all incoming products. In this position, you will use electronic equipment to scan and record required information to ensure inventory accuracy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Check with supervisors or leads at the beginning of the shift to discuss any issues or changes in the daily procedure.
  • Verify quantities of product received against the packing slip/purchase order.
  • Check and report any damage found due to refrigeration, travel, or handling by inbound freight company.
  • Sort or breakdown all incoming product.
  • Build steady and secure pallets to be put into back stock reserves.
  • Wrap pallets whenever necessary.
  • Ensure that all labeling of product and pallets are accurate for put-away in proper pick slot or back stock location.
  • Keep area clean and debris out of work area; ensure a safe working environment.
  • Inspect assigned jack for safety issues. Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required.
  • Report to supervisor or lead any violation of company policy.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) policies and procedures, as appropriate for location.

Job Requirements

  • Receiver functions are completed in accordance with company standards and procedures including quality standards and safety regulations.
  • Effective communication and coordination exist with company personnel and with management.
  • Assistance and support are provided as needed.
  • Deadlines are met.

Experience

  • Warehouse/Operations preferred but not required.

Knowledge

  • Understanding of safety guidelines.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable Bakco functions and RF systems.

Skills and Abilities

  • Understand and properly follow all receiving procedures, including how to use Bakco and RF systems.
  • Understand all paperwork related to receiving including how to read and use purchase order (PO) receivers, bills of lading, and packing lists.
  • Have an understanding of procedures in other areas of the warehouse for a more global understanding of all processes.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Work Environment

  • This position requires the associate to perform all duties at one of our UNFI locations, such as a distribution center or office.

Physical Environment / Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.
  • Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20°F to 35°F in Perishable Operation and 37°F to 90°F in Grocery Operation.
  • Ability to do repetitive arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.
  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work-related equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
