Join to apply for the Instructor – Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Technology Program role at Perry Technical Institute. This is a full‑time, year‑round teaching appointment in the HVAC/R program. The appointment reports to the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Department Head. The teaching assignment is an evening schedule: 3:45 PM–10:45 PM (Mon–Thu) and 9:30 AM–8:30 PM (Fri). The selected candidate will teach all eight quarters of the HVAC/R curriculum.

Working Conditions

Duties are performed in a classroom and lab environment. Working conditions align with postsecondary career and technical education faculty expectations, including coursework preparation, lecturing, student supervision in simulated labs, and routine clerical tasks such as word processing, phone and email communication.

Salary Range

$80,000 – $85,000 per year (base salary; wages may be increased annually by up to 3% in accordance with the institution’s budgeting process).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of related practical work experience in the subject area(s) taught
  • 06A license or eligibility to obtain the 06A license within 180 days of employment
  • Effective communication with business and professional constituents
  • Computer proficiency
  • Driving competency: possession of a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of insurance as required
  • Consent to a drug test
  • Ability to read, speak, and communicate effectively in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certificate of completion from an accredited career school or associate degree in the relevant subject area(s)
  • Previous teaching experience
  • Excellent lecture skills
  • Industry knowledge and skill
  • Ability to integrate industry scenarios and role‑playing into instruction
  • Contribution to curriculum development and collaboration with the business community
  • NATE Certified or ESCO HVAC Excellence CMHE/CSME Credential
  • Experience with Learning Resource Systems (LRS)

Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for teaching HVAC/R technology in a hands‑on lecture and lab environment
  • Participate in course and program development
  • Maintain compliance with state and national accrediting agencies
  • Stay current in the industry
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Enrollment Services, Career Services) to pursue institutional goals
  • Complete and maintain an ongoing professional growth plan
  • Attend new instructor orientation and training
  • Grade, assess, and document student progress and attendance using Perry Tech’s LRS
  • Provide student advising per institute policy
  • Attend routine department and faculty meetings
  • Serve on assigned committees (safety, strategic planning, etc.)
  • Conduct program tours and participate in Open House events
  • Participate in various training workshops and programs
  • Maintain good attendance and collaborate effectively with colleagues
  • Perform other duties as assigned
