Job Summary
Collier County is seeking a motivated, and collaborative professional to join our team as a Recycling Coordinator. This position involves professional and responsible work overseeing and administering programs related to residential and commercial solid waste collection, municipal solid waste disposal, household hazardous waste, customer service, and countywide recycling initiatives and waste reduction programs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Educates and motivates Collier County’s business community, nonprofit organizations, schools, and residents to increase recycling participation and reduce solid waste.
- Promotes recycling and waste reduction through public education, community events, presentations, and digital outreach.
- Develops and oversees community recycling, business recycling, County in-house recycling, and drop‑off recycling programs; conducts site visits to recycling facilities and agencies.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates residential, commercial, and County recycling programs to ensure efficiency, innovation, and regulatory compliance.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures to support recycling and waste reduction initiatives.
- Establishes and maintains productive relationships with businesses, schools, and community organizations to encourage greater recycling efforts.
- Researches and develops innovative recycling and waste reduction programs and monitors federal, state, and local legislation related to solid waste and recycling.
Responsibilities
- Manages vendor and grant contracts, monitors performance, and prepares required reports for funding agencies.
- Administers grant funds for recycling and waste reduction programs; researches opportunities for grant funding; prepares grant applications; establishes grant budgets; tracks and monitors grant expenditures; prepares required reports for submission to granting agencies.
- Supervises and supports assigned staff, coordinates daily work activities, and ensures a safe and effective work environment.
- Oversees commercial recycling compliance, tracks program data, and prepares reports for County and State agencies.
- Builds community partnerships, manages outreach campaigns, and provides customer service to support recycling program participation.
- Assists in budget development, monitors expenditures, and ensures cost‑effective program operations.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable codes, laws, and safety regulations; takes corrective actions to address deviations or violations.
- Plans and coordinates special recycling and waste reduction events, including America Recycles Day, Earth Day, Coastal Cleanup, and Neighborhood Cleanups.
- Stays informed on industry trends, represents the County at meetings and conferences, and prepares award nominations and technical presentations.
- Performs related duties and special projects supporting the Solid Waste Division’s environmental and sustainability goals.
Supplemental Information
Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.
Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident‑by‑incident basis.

Educational and Experience Requirements
- Do you possess a bachelor's degree in business, Environmental Science, accompanied by at least two (2) years of related experience? (NOTE: Candidates without a degree should have four (4) additional years of related experience.)
- Do you possess at least two (2) years of previous experience and/or training that includes recycling program administration, recycling education, public relations, grant administration?
- Do you possess or are able to obtain and maintain a valid Recycling Systems Technical Associate Certification from Solid Waste of North America within a year of hire?
- Please briefly describe your experience in maintaining statistical records to evaluate progress and performance of recycling and related programs.
- Please briefly describe your experience in recycling program administration, recycling education, public relations, grant administration.
- Please briefly describe your experience in public speaking or giving presentations.
- Work hours and days are Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be able to work additional hours as needed including weekends, holidays, and during emergency situations. Are you able to work this schedule?
