GENERAL OVERVIEW
Obtain blood samples by venipuncture, fingerstick, or heelstick. Provide instructions and/or assistance with the collection of non-blood specimens. Obtain selected culture specimens. Perform diagnostic testing procedures offered by Multitest. Responsibilities
Performs EKG testing, venipunctures, fingersticks, heelsticks, POC creatinine and RBGs. Instructs/assists patient’s w/collection of non-blood specimens. Obtains specimens for designated types of cultures. Completes procedures in accordance with universal precautions. Labels specimens, completes necessary requisitions, packages specimens according to established procedures, and utilizes the pneumatic tube system to transport specimens and paperwork to the appropriate locations. Communicates with both in-house and non-staff physicians via the telephone to verify test orders and accept verbal orders. Communicates with the registration department and outpatient surgery areas to verify patient demographic information. Utilizes the laboratory information system to place orders, update the status of orders, and enter results on a limited number of tests. Performs basic diagnostic laboratory tests on selected STAT orders. Maintains daily log sheets and compiles weekly and monthly statistics. Orders and maintains sufficient levels of supplies. Minimum
High school diploma or equivalent required. CPR – American Heart Association Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate Preferred
Previous phlebotomy working experience of 6-12 months is preferred. Disclaimer
