Overview

Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)/ Emergency Med. III Per Diem at Cleveland Clinic Florida. The Advanced Practice Provider will primarily work in the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU), managing patients admitted for observation and determining their disposition and discharge needs. When CDU is not busy, they may assist with patients in the Emergency Department. This role requires experience in Emergency Medicine and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Working hours are from 7am to 7pm. Responsibilities

Conduits: Conduct comprehensive medical histories, perform physical examinations (where indicated), initiate appropriate lab, radiology tests or other tests, review lab data, and develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan in collaboration with the health care team. Perform and interpret routine diagnostic procedures (laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic) as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals. Perform routine and specialized procedures as credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the applicable hospitals. Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by license and Cleveland Clinic policies. Educate patients and answer questions regarding disease, treatments, drug effects and hazards. Participate in medical team rounds; collaborate with nursing, medical and other health care team members to ensure quality patient care. Refer patients to specialists for consultation or specialized resources and treatment. Ensure continuity of care by acting as a liaison between the patient and multi-disciplinary care team or other specialty areas as necessary. Participate in quality monitoring through review of records and treatment plans to assure quality care. Facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management. Support professional development of the health care team and promote translation of evidence-based practices, guidelines, and research. May conduct research studies or assist in data collection and analysis. May serve as a clinical preceptor for students and/or onboard new caregivers. Other duties as assigned. Education and Qualifications

APRNs

– Effective 05/01/2014: MSN required upon hire or within 3 years of hire for external hires and internal hires moving from a non-APRN licensed role to an APRN licensed role. Graduate of an accredited APRN program. If in neonatal care service area, Master’s Degree is required upon hire. PA

– Graduate of an ARC-approved Physician Assistant Program. Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies or higher degree from a program recognized by the state's Licensing Board. Certifications

NP: Currently licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in applicable state(s); must be licensed as an RN in applicable state(s); national certification as a Nurse Practitioner; BLS required; ACLS or PALS (or NRP) may be required based on work setting; must have arrangements with at least one physician; must be credentialed and privileged by the Medical Executive Committee and Governing Body. PA: Certification as a Physician Assistant through NCCPA; licensed to practice and prescribe; current DEA license or designee as required; BLS required; ACLS or PALS or ATLS may be required based on work setting; review of prescribing eligibility if additional degrees are needed; must have Physician Supervision Agreement; must be credentialed and privileged. Work Experience

Related clinical experience preferred. Physical Requirements

Ability to walk/stand for long periods; dexterity for examinations; corrected vision and hearing to normal range; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; potential exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids. Personal Protective Equipment

Follows standard precautions using PPE as required. Pay Range
