At Black & White Zebra, our publications are the cornerstone of our business. We equip professionals with forward-thinking resources to leverage tools and software (with an emphasis on AI) to build better systems, stronger teams, and more human-centered ways of working that drive real business impact. Through engaging videos, award-winning podcasts, smart thought leadership, and educational content, we create thriving communities that help people succeed at work.
As our brands scale across multiple verticals, so does our ambition to expand our SEO footprint. We’re looking for a Senior SEO Manager to oversee SEO performance with a strong emphasis on technical SEO excellence, scalable systems, and AI-driven workflows.
In this role, you’ll partner closely with our content, operations, and digital PR teams to drive measurable, sustainable organic growth across a portfolio of websites, including PeopleManagingPeople.com, TheDigitalProjectManager.com, and TheCTOClub.com.
What You’ll Be Doing (Responsibilities)
Technical SEO Leadership: Own comprehensive technical SEO initiatives, that include addressing crawlability, indexability, structured data, site speed, mobile optimization, internal linking, and site architecture. Conduct regular, in-depth audits using tools like Screaming Frog and other advanced platforms, diagnosing and resolving issues that impact performance. Develop and implement optimization strategies for metadata, headers, URL structures, sitemaps, navigation, and schema markup across a portfolio of sites. Work closely with engineering/development teams to scope, prioritize, and implement technical SEO projects, ensuring SEO requirements are translated effectively into development work as necessary
Content & Authority Building: Maintain and evolve keyword research in Ahrefs, keeping keyword lists up to date with new opportunities, striking‑distance terms, and competitive insights. Partner with Managing Editors, Editors, and Director of Content & SEO to identify high‑value opportunities, conduct gap analyses, spot striking‑distance opportunities, and optimize existing content for search visibility, engagement, and lead generation goals. Support the Digital PR team in prioritizing backlink opportunities, enhancing site authority and tracking link‑building initiatives tied to content clusters
Analytics, Insights, & Experimentation: Monitor SEO performance using GA4, GSC, Ahrefs, and internal reporting tools and communicate clear cause/effect analysis of ranking and traffic changes. Identify new growth opportunities, forecast potential impact, and deliver actionable insights. Develop and run SEO testing initiatives—from ideation to implementation to measuring results and impact
AI & Automation & Systems: Leverage AI tools (including ChatGPT) and automation workflows to improve SEO efficiency, performance monitoring, and execution at scale. Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, expand scope, and drive better results through scalable SEO systems and processes
Collaboration & Strategic Partnership: Work cross‑functionally with content, design, engineering, and operations teams to plan and execute SEO initiatives that align with business goals. Serve as the internal subject matter expert on SEO, partnering with the Director of Content & SEO to guide strategy and influence decision‑making
How Your Success Will Be Measured
Organic performance impact: Growth in keyword rankings, organic traffic, and visibility across LLM‑powered search experiences (ChatGPT, AI Overviews, etc.) in priority content clusters and business‑critical topics
Technical SEO health: Improvements in site speed, crawlability, indexability, structured data, Core Web Vitals, and overall site architecture
Authority & content optimization: Increased visibility and engagement for optimized content, alongside measurable growth in high‑quality backlinks and domain authority
Systemic & scalable improvements: Development of AI‑driven workflows, automation, and processes that enhance efficiency, reduce errors, and enable SEO execution at scale
Your Skillset Includes
SEO leadership: 5+ years of hands‑on SEO experience with a record of driving measurable organic growth in competitive markets
Technical depth: Expertise in site speed, structured data, crawlability, Core Web Vitals, and scalable site architecture
Proven ability to operationalize SEO frameworks across multiple websites at once (e.g., scalable internal linking strategy, templated content structures)
Tool fluency: Advanced use of Wordpress, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog (or similar), GA4, GSC, and reporting platforms like Looker Studio. Strong proficiency with Excel/Google Sheets for advanced data analysis, modeling, and reporting
Content alignment: Ability to bridge SEO strategy with content and digital PR teams, identifying content gaps and authority‑building opportunities
AI & automation: Proven track record of applying AI tools and workflows (including ChatGPT) to improve efficiency and impact
Testing & Experimentation: Experience designing and running SEO experiments, using data to refine strategy and drive measurable improvements, especially in emerging SERP elements like AI Overviews
Analytical mindset: Skilled in surfacing insights, connecting cause‑and‑effect trends, and communicating them clearly to stakeholders
Collaborative communicator: Strong cross‑functional influence and ability to align diverse teams around SEO priorities
