Supervise the care, cleaning, handling, and reprocessing of instruments and equipment. Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory agencies. Perform Instrument Technician responsibilities as needed. Decontaminate instruments and equipment to hospital and regulatory guidelines. Assemble and wrap trays for sterilization following procedures and load and operate sterilizers. Use knowledge of instrumentation, blood and body fluid precautions, disinfection techniques, and methods of sterilization to perform quality assurance monitoring. Document according to policy and procedures. Coordinate and assemble surgery case carts. Accurately complete inventory lists for trays and surgeon preference cards, signs, and dates. Review instrument and inventory supplies, restock, proactively identify supply/instrumentation needs. Assist with O.R. sterilization processes. Provide direction to sterile processing staff. Participate in training new employees, provide guidance and assistance to less experienced staff. Coach and counsel staff, conduct performance evaluations. Communicate updates and information with staff. Serve as a liaison to surgical staff to facilitate maximum efficiency of patient care. Report “near misses”, potential and actual errors to manager. Maintain staffing schedule for assigned personnel ensuring efficient coverage of the department. Qualifications
Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent. Two years minimum experience in Sterile Processing. Knowledge of surgical terminology, instrumentation, and case cart pulling. Certifications Required
Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST). Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Tech (CSPDT). Certifications Preferred
