Overview
Joby Aviation is seeking a motivated and organized Staff Manufacturing Test Engineer to develop end-of-line (EOL) testers for airborne electronics including low voltage computers, high voltage power electronics, batteries, motors, and actuators. The position is based in our San Carlos location, and the Electrical Engineer will actively work with various teams at Joby Aviation, including Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Production, Quality Engineering, and more. This role will operate in a fast-paced, demanding, and rewarding environment with very high expectations for individual contribution.
Responsibilities
Work with Design Engineering to define requirements for acceptance testing product designs.
Establish test plans based on the product requirements.
Design and build tester proof of concepts.
Carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time to design and make the testers.
Document testers including electrical, harness, and circuitry drawings.
Coordinate with Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality Engineering to deploy and qualify testers.
Coordinate with Production and Technical Publications to define operation, maintenance, and calibration of testers.
Drive continuous improvement on deployed qualified testers.
Required
8+ years experience with Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant fields, 6+ with Master’s and 3+ with PhD
Demonstrate organizational skills and attention to details.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Desired
Knowledge with Python programming language
Hands-on skills with diagnostics software, hardware, tools, instruments, general electro-mechanical/mechatronic systems, and measurement techniques
Experience in electrical schematics and board layout tools
Ability to perform manual soldering to assemble electronic components on printed circuit boards
Demonstrate the ability to work with different disciplines (i.e., electrical, mechanical, software)
Demonstrate the ability to multitask between multiple projects
Knowledge of statistics and statistical analyses and experience applying these to factory tests, including concepts such as GnRR, Cpk, Standard deviation, etc.
Compensation and Benefits Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $157,000- $209,300 per year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Joby also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including paid time off, healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan with a company match, an employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), short-term and long-term disability coverage, life insurance, and more.
