Underwriting Specialist OR Executive Underwriter – Excess Casualty
Zurich Insurance is currently hiring an experienced Underwriting Specialist or Executive Underwriter for our Excess Casualty team. The position is open nationwide with a preference for location in major cities such as New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and offers a hybrid work schedule. Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain relationships with broker partners and construction industry customers. Leverage casualty underwriting acumen across risk assessment, exposure evaluation, and pricing to generate and maintain a profitable book of new and renewal business. Work collaboratively with business units including claims, finance, risk engineering, actuary, and technical underwriting. Use market-facing, negotiation and interpersonal skills to grow relationships with preferred distribution partners in an assigned territory. Underwrite and price a solid renewal book. Identify and analyze new growth opportunities. Ensure accounts are qualified, meet the organization’s appetite, and are balanced with sound business opportunity. Make agent/broker/customer on‑site calls with planned and well‑prepared purpose. Oversee negotiations of terms & conditions and close deals. Ensure cross‑sell within areas of responsibility to increase product density with the Zurich customer. Required Qualifications (Underwriter): High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3+ years of experience in underwriting or market-facing area. High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area. Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 1+ year of experience in underwriting or market-facing area. Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 4+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support area AND knowledge of line/s of business, regulatory guidelines, time restraints for quotes, and Microsoft Office. Required Qualifications (Executive Underwriter): High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing area. High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10+ years in claims or underwriting support area. Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with associate degree and 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing area. Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with associate degree and 8+ years in claims or underwriting support area AND knowledge of line/s of business, regulatory guidelines, time restraints for quotes, and Microsoft Office. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Compensation:
Base salary range $75,000.00 – $165,000.00 per year. The Underwriting Specialist and Executive Underwriter ranges differ as follows: $75,000.00 – $125,000.00 and $98,500.00 – $165,000.00 respectively. Short‑term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10–15%. Location and Schedule:
Hybrid work model, three days in office per week. Preferred locations: New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, Dallas, and nationwide commuting possible. EEO Statement:
