Base pay: $200.00/hr.

The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) delivers medical and mental health care for the NYC jail system. Approximately 25% of new admissions receive care. The service offers comprehensive modalities, including specialty housing units, 24‑hour on‑call psychiatric service, creative arts programming, DBT training, substance use treatment, and re‑entry services.

Responsibilities

Provide psychiatric care: admission evaluations, follow‑ups, and urgent/emergent consultations to individuals enrolled in the mental health service.

Consult with non‑prescribing mental health staff and medical staff about diagnosis, treatment, and need for psychiatric medication.

Participate in team meetings with treatment staff on a daily basis if working on a mental observation unit and weekly if working in a clinic.

Regularly participate in creating and reviewing individual treatment plans for patients.

Evaluate patients for higher level of care, including hospitalizations. If a patient is hospitalized, maintain contact with psychiatric staff to ensure continuity of care.

Document all activities in the electronic medical record in a timely, concise, and clear manner.

Provide clinical supervision as needed for psychiatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

Engage in weekly clinical supervision with psychiatric leadership.

Provide clinical supervision for psychiatric volunteers (resident or fellow) as needed, with direct supervision and documentation of evaluation and feedback.

Other duties as assigned by the Senior Psychiatrist or Mental Health Manager, Medical Director, or Chief of Service for Psychiatry.

Location: Rikers Island.

Schedule: Mondays 8 am – 4 pm.
