Systems Engineer 2 – Washington, DC (Security Clearance Required)

Compensation Base pay range: $86,720.00 – $130,080.00 per year.
Overview As a Systems Engineer 2, you will work within a dynamic team of system engineers and administrators to design, implement, operate, maintain, and secure large, complex hardware and virtualized infrastructure. You will collaborate with stakeholders to ensure solutions meet performance, reliability, and cybersecurity standards.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and remediate complex system availability, performance, and information‑assurance issues in a mission‑critical environment.
Assist with analysis, evaluation, engineering, and implementation of system improvements, automation, optimization, and deployments.
Document designs and changes to infrastructure, including physical/logical drawings, engineering plans, implementation and transition plans, test and failover plans.
Perform security updates to hardware and software to maintain strong security posture across all managed systems.
Research, prototype, and develop emerging technologies in partnership with industry OEMs to implement cutting‑edge capabilities.
Communicate solution designs and status to technical program teams and end‑customer stakeholders.
Qualifications
U.S. Citizenship, subject to a government security investigation; Active Secret clearance required.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
Minimum 2 years of progressive experience in data center and virtual infrastructure technologies.
Experience designing, testing, and implementing hardware and software solutions for data center and virtual environments.
Strong hands‑on experience with VMware ESXi/vSphere, Microsoft Windows Server (2016/2019) & Windows 10 deployment, DNS/DFS/DHCP, WSUS, KMS, and Active Directory.
Knowledge of data center networking, SAN/NAS protocols, and virtualization of enterprise applications (AD, MSSQL, RHEL, SharePoint).
Experience with security scanning, DISA STIG/SRGs, system hardening, and automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash, JSON).
Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).
Desired / Advantageous Qualifications
Master’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or similar.
Experience with Microsoft SCCM, OSD, OCSP, and McAfee endpoint security products.
Large‑scale on‑premises storage engineering (3PAR, NetApp, Dell/EMC, Pure Storage).
SQL Server infrastructure design and deployment.
Software‑defined networking and vendor certifications (VMware, Cisco, Microsoft, NetApp).
