Smartsheet
Overview
For over 20 years, Smartsheet has helped people and teams achieve—well, anything. From seamless work management to smart, scalable solutions, we’ve always worked with flow. We’re building tools that empower teams to automate the manual, uncover insights, and scale smarter. We’re creating space for big thinking, action, and meaningful work. Smartsheet is redefining how work gets done and embedding agentic experiences into our collaborative platform to enable systems that reason, plan, and act alongside millions of users.
As a Principal Engineer, you will define and drive the architecture, frameworks, and front-to-back experiences behind Smartsheet’s agentic systems. You’ll shape how reasoning models, orchestration layers, and dynamic UIs come together—and lead the adoption of AI-driven development practices across engineering. You will report to our Engineering Leader located in our Bellevue, WA office, or you may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.
You Will
Architect and guide the development of end-to-end agentic experiences—from backend reasoning systems to intuitive frontend surfaces that explain and visualize AI decisions.
Define long-term frameworks for safe, scalable, and auditable agentic behavior across services and UIs.
Lead design reviews and establish best practices for building, evaluating, and evolving agentic applications.
Partner with AI platform, design, and product teams to ensure scalability, usability, and trust in AI-driven interactions.
Champion AI-assisted engineering—driving adoption of AI-enhanced code generation, test automation, UI design, and debugging across the org.
Mentor engineers at all levels, fostering a culture where intelligent tools amplify creativity, speed, and product quality.

2+ years of experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.).
Familiarity with agentic or event-driven orchestration frameworks (LangGraph, Swarm, CrewAI, etc.).
Strong understanding of large-scale API design, observability, and reliability.
Demonstrated leadership in AI-enabled development—influencing practices across backend and frontend disciplines.
Ability to define long-term architectural strategy and influence organization-wide technical direction.
