Position Overview As our Radiation Shielding Engineer you will work as part of a high-performing, innovative, and multi-disciplinary team employing an integrated approach for source term estimation, activation analysis, shielding, and radiation analysis.

Your Day to Day as a Radiation Shielding Engineer

Participate in the development of novel advanced reactor designs, primarily focusing on radiation transport and shield design.

Perform radiation transport simulations for gamma and neutron dose rates, neutron activation, and radiation-induced material impact assessments.

Develop radiation source terms for use in shielding and dose rate calculations.

Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams, providing data/requirements to other disciplines and receiving data/requirements from them.

Required Qualifications

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nuclear engineering or radiation health physics is required.

Familiarity with radiation analysis using industry standard analysis codes and tools (e.g., Attila, MCNP, SCALE).

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to write and deliver high quality technical reports and documentation, including presentations to customers, regulators, and other organizations.

Proficiency with MS Office Suite.

Programming skills (bash, Python, C++, etc.) and experience with Linux on high performance computing clusters.

U.S. Citizen.

Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience developing radiological source terms for contamination modeling is a plus.

Pay:

$66,000.00 – $101,000.00

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is between $66,000.00 and $101,000.00 per year. The base salary offered is based on local market factors and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. The total compensation package may include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive and a full range of benefits. Details will be provided at offer. Employment is at-will unless subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company reserves the right to modify base salary and other compensation or benefits at any time.
