Position Summary As a Product Development Engineer, you will be one of the mechanical designers for our next-generation high‑speed connector products. Working under a Senior Engineer, you’ll ensure the product roadmap aligns with industry needs, support internal manufacturing sites, external vendors, and collaborate across all engineering disciplines. Your role spans R&D, patent development, and preparing products for high‑volume manufacturing and maximum profitability.
Responsibilities
Understand evolving industry needs and translate them into product requirements.
Collaborate directly with Signal Integrity (EE) team to ensure mechanical design meets electrical performance.
Work with Mechanical Integrity team to guarantee high reliability and quality over product life.
Coordinate with NPI and Machine Design (automation) teams for efficient high‑volume production.
Conduct tolerance loop analyses and assist in material selection.
Develop initial product specifications and technical documentation.
Interface with customers throughout the project lifecycle and support the sales process.
Manage DFM, prototyping, production tooling, and occasional travel to global manufacturing sites.
Provide technical assistance to product marketing and sales teams.
Participate in quality investigations, improvement initiatives, fixture/tooling design, and test plan management.
Engage in cost‑reduction projects, including alternative material discovery and manufacturing efficiency improvements.
Qualifications
BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering (or related discipline).
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Experience with solid modeling/CAE/CAD tools (Pro/E, SolidWorks, etc.).
Proficiency with MS Office suite.
Understanding of GD&T and experience with FEA tools.
Knowledge of copper alloys, high‑performance engineering plastics, and networking/datacenter/server system architectures.
Knowledge of manufacturing technologies (stamping, molding, plating) is a plus.
Basic understanding of electrical engineering.
Willingness to travel approximately 10% domestically and internationally.
Skills
Excellent communication with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
Capacity to manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
