Field Service Engineer – Custom Machinery & Midwest Travel
Location: Grand Rapids, MI (Based near Grand Rapids, MI) | Full‑Time | Regional Travel (Midwest)
Pay: $28–$32/hr + 1.5X OT + Paid Travel Time (ST) | Total Compensation $90K+ per year

Job Summary: A leading OEM of custom industrial automation systems is hiring a Field Service Engineer to join its technical service and repair team. This paid travel, high‑autonomy role supports machine installations, commissioning, and field repairs—focused on customers across the Midwest and surrounding regions.
What You’ll Do
Travel to customer sites across the Midwest (primarily weekday trips)
Inspect and troubleshoot pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems
Align components like robots, tables, and fixtures using laser alignment tools
Run system cycles and verify that machines meet performance specs
Train customer operators on machine usage, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Supervise riggers and contractors during machine installs
Provide ongoing remote support, after‑hours coverage (rotating), and phone‑based assistance
Maintain detailed reports and records of each customer visit
What You Bring
Associate degree or equivalent experience in a technical or mechanical/electrical field
2–5+ years of hands‑on experience in field service, automation, or custom machinery
Willingness to travel weekly throughout the Midwest region
Ability to read schematics, ladder logic diagrams, and follow troubleshooting workflows
Pay & Benefits
$28–$32 per hour base pay depending on experience
1.5x overtime pay after 40 hours
Paid travel time at standard rate (1x)
$85–90K total earnings annually, depending on workload and travel
