Overview

Develop, implement, and support safe and reliable machining process solutions which include specification of tooling, writing NC programs, and performing training mainly for the Schenectady Rotor / Field Machine shop and the Large Machining Shop and Services Machining scope. Responsibilities

Code and develop NC programs for use on lathes, HBM’s, NC machine centers, field slotters, and other NC driven equipment. Use experience with APT, G code, Vericut, Mastercam, CAD/CAM software, and knowledge of Fanuc controllers to develop large machine tool programs and train operators to execute programs with quality results. Support all technical aspects of new units as well as services work in rotors, fields, and large machine bays of the cell. Work with industry tooling engineers to specify and procure safe and reliable tooling on a timely basis in support of production schedules. Develop and revise tooling and NC programs in support of cycle and cost-out initiatives, collaborating with machinists to improve processes on a regular basis. Develop process workflow definitions and estimate timing (lean standard work or L1s) to help operations plan processes and hit cycle and handbook targets. Develop build books for new units and services jobs. Participate in teams with unions to ensure understanding of processes and that specified machines stay on production track; resolve technical issues promptly. Assist and work with other programmers to ensure programs, tooling, and planning paperwork are available on time for start of jobs. Develop training materials and planning in support of work packages. Lead the ME component of machinist training and qualifications as assigned. Lead the development of EHS best practices for programs and processes. Troubleshoot issues with equipment and processes. Establish, document, and maintain design for manufacturing (DFM) guidelines for engineering use compatible with current manufacturing capability. Evaluate new products for manufacturability per established DFM guidelines. Initiate and lead capital equipment projects that support new product designs, factory capacity additions, and quality improvement goals. Implement operator training plans. Develop machine programs for NPI and new or advanced manufacturing processes and lines being introduced into the plant. Qualifications

Associate's degree/Technical degree in mathematics, engineering, programming or computer science from an accredited university, or similar suitable technical training or apprenticeship and a minimum of 5 years machining and/or programming experience (OR High School Diploma/GED plus a minimum of 7 years machining and/or programming experience). Significant hands-on experience using CAM software with machine centers. Ability to read drawings. Knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Tolerancing Standards. Strong knowledge and significant experience in NC programming, machining and related planning. Machining and programming experience in Steam turbine or Gen product line. Self-motivated and able to meet deadlines. CNC programming experience in both traditional and macro. Project management skills – ability to handle multiple complex situations daily. Strong organization skills and attention to detail. Strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, initiative, and creativity. Strong interpersonal, communication, influencing, and organizational integration skills. Bachelor’s degree preferably in Engineering or Business. Green Belt or Black Belt certification or equivalent quality certification. Pay Transparency

The base pay range for this position is $90,400 - $135,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for 10% performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. The company pays geographic differentials of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
