Job Title:
Senior Systems Engineer
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for determining requirements, developing project plans, implementing and providing operational technical support to meet the expected functionality of new or existing servers, workstation hardware and software systems.
Job Responsibilities
Establishes objectives and goals for network servers, workstations, and applications aligned with the organization’s information systems project planning and vision.
Collaborate with stakeholders, department management, and internal resources to ensure smooth and reliable operation of applications and that the underlying infrastructure fulfills business objectives and processes.
Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades and resource optimization as required.
Lead complex projects and serve as escalation point for incidents or problems with a high degree of complexity.
Provide technical planning for users, information services, and network services departments.
Plan, design, configure, and implement server-based software/hardware with minimal impact to overall network availability and performance.
Design operational and administrative requirements and specifications for network servers.
Ensure workstations and applications comply with institutional/departmental policies and procedures.
Plan, implement, and maintain network hardware/software systems to perform at optimum levels as specified by vendors and organizational needs.
Make non-routine decisions under changing conditions in accordance with supervisor guidance.
Coordinate activities of others and collaborate with internal and external customers, including healthcare professionals and staff; interact with directors and above as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
Required:
Minimum five (5) years of related experience, including three (3) years of large network server and workstation support.
Expert-level knowledge in server and virtualization systems.
Demonstrated knowledge in Data Center Operations.
Working knowledge of storage platforms, backup/recovery systems, cloud infrastructure, and related tools.
Strong systems design and architecture understanding with ability to research, test, and recommend new or enhanced technologies.
Functional understanding of network design and protocols.
Functional knowledge of Virtual Desktop platforms (Citrix or VMware).
Proficiency with Windows and Linux operating systems; including management/operational tools (AD, GPO, DNS, DHCP, Certificate Authority, ADFS, Azure).
Ability to work under high-stress conditions and in a collaborative setting.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; ability to comprehensively document systems, procedures, and protocols.
Strong attention to documentation standards.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science or a related field.
Ten (10) years of enterprise-level experience; in lieu of a Bachelor's degree may be considered.
Applicable professional certifications related to server operating systems and/or infrastructure (e.g., VMware, Microsoft, Red Hat, ITIL).
Education and Certifications
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science or related field; or ten (10) years of enterprise-level experience in lieu of degree.
Required Certifications & Licensure: VMware, Microsoft, Red Hat, ITIL, or other industry-standard certifications preferred.
