Salary: $32 - $48 per hour.
Location: San Diego, CA. Full Time, On-site.
Position Summary As a Communication Systems Technician you will provide technical assistance to the shipboard crews in the operation, inspection, problem identification, troubleshooting and maintenance of Communication Systems aboard U.S. Navy ships as a representative of Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC). You will interface with U.S. Navy civilian engineers, program managers and logisticians, and equipment manufacturers. You will receive daily work assignments from the SWRMC Branch Head. Additional duties may include logistics, material, and safety responsibilities.
Clearance Required Must be a U.S. Citizen with an Active Secret Clearance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Direct, oversee repair activities, train, troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain communication systems.
Maintain the following systems: AN/SMQ-11 Shipboard Receiving Terminal; AN/USC-61 (C) Digital Modular Radio (DMR); AN/WSC-9 (V) Navy Multiband Terminal (NMT); Tactical Link Systems; and SATCOM.
Provide technical support for procurement, installation, at-sea testing, preventive/corrective maintenance, and lifecycle management of systems.
Interpret technical manuals, apply repair standards, and maintain accurate technical documentation.
Minimum Education Required High School/GED.
Additional Qualifications / Responsibilities
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Associated Navy “C” School.
4+ years of related experience with associated systems.
Proficient in troubleshooting and maintaining communication systems.
Strong technical comprehension with the ability to read and interpret manuals and standards.
Effective communication skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related technical applications.
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience
Experience with Commercial Broadband Satellite Program (CBSP).
Experience with TV Direct to Sailors (TV-DTS).
Experience with Global Broadcast Service (GBS).
Experience with Legacy EHF/SHF.
OSHA 10 certification.
CPR certification.
Physical Demands and Expectations
Able to travel up to 10%.
Regular physical activity, including walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting may be required.
Ability to work in an industrial shipboard/shipyard environment, climb shipboard ladders, and wear all required safety equipment.
Able to lift (up to 50 lb), carry, and transport heavy equipment and materials required for the job.
Able to meet U.S. Navy ship rider requirements.
Maneuvering around tight spaces in a shipboard environment.
Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.
Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax, and other office equipment.
