PARALEGAL II – City of Chicago

Starting Salary: $66,612.00
Only employees with the City of Chicago name on the agenda and those covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (AFSCME Unit 1, 3, 4 & 5) are eligible to bid.

Under the supervision of the General Counsel, senior‑level functions provide paraprofessional legal and administrative support to attorneys and perform related duties as required.
Location: O’Hare International Airport, Chicago
Shift: Monday–Friday, 9:00 A.M.–5:00 P.M.
Days Off: Saturday and Sunday
Responsibilities
Collect and organize information, including legal and other documents, in response to subpoenas, preservation requests, discovery requests and other requests for information and collaborate as an intermediary with outside counsel.
Review and examine legal digests, case law, news articles, statutes, ordinances, regulations, and other relevant materials to conduct legal research for attorneys on aviation‑related matters.
Research and analyze statutes, judicial decisions, legal codes, and other documents for attorneys on aviation‑related matters.
Attend meetings with the various sections within CDA.
Review and research contracts.
Track and summarize legal documents such as summonses, claims and subpoenas.
In conjunction with CDA attorneys, review discovery answers and update relevant parties on the status of discovery when dealing with outside counsel.
Prepare and maintain documents for subpoenas, preservation requests and record‑retention requests.
Index and file documents for record‑keeping purposes.
Prepare exhibits and documents for use by CDA attorneys.
Additional Duties
As required by the position, perform other related tasks and duties as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association‑accredited program or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Valid license at the time of hire.
Ability to work flexible hours, including early/late meetings and occasional weekends.
Ability to travel to Midway Airport as needed.
Successful completion of an airport background check and a Security Threat Assessment.
Selection Requirements The chosen candidates will complete an interview that includes a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test. Candidates best suited to the responsibilities will be selected.
