The Office of OneIT provides highly reliable information technology infrastructure, tools and services to empower the University to achieve its academic, research, administrative and service goals. Primary Purpose of Position:
The Network Engineer is responsible for the day?to?day operations of the organizations core voice and data networks, network technology evaluations, protocol analysis, configuration and research, complex troubleshooting and analysis, and special network projects. Summary of Position Responsibilities:
This is highly technical and analytical work in serving as an engineer for networking, enterprise network planning, high?level troubleshooting, security, network system administration, and/or networking products and services. Work includes the enterprise design, review of internal and external infrastructure requirements, technology evaluation, testing, and developing guidelines for implementation. Engineers may consult with clients and/or vendors to determine future network systems requirements, their costs, design additions, solutions to complex network operating problems, and the design of network security systems. Employees develop request for proposals (RFPs) and contracts for services and serve as the expert in that product area. Employees serve as experts on the network and network services, including serving as a resource to senior analysts in network problem?solving and designing. This includes determining needs and researching new technology additions and improvements to the network. Additional roles may include technical engineer in network management systems or telecommunications (data, voice, video, VOIP), network architecture, network systems administration, network services, and converged network services. May serve as team leader within the work unit. Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelors degree 3+ years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant in?depth experience in large?scale network design, implementation, and analysis. Strong Cisco networking experience. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience: In?depth knowledge of network architecture, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS), network protocols (IPv4, IPv6, NAT, Multicast), and VPN technologies (Anyconnect, IPSEC VPN). Deploying and managing Cisco Catalyst switches, Cisco Access Switches, Cisco Firepower, Palo Alto Firewalls, and Cisco Nexus(9K) switches in data center environments. Cisco VPN, firewalls, routing/switching, and software, including Cisco IOS, CatOS, ASA OS, and NX?OS. Technical experience with configuring advanced service features of Cisco ASR. Deep understanding of Cisco ISE managing network application technologies for Identity Services and 802.1X. Certifications/Licenses (Preferred):
