Accurately obtains and processes patient demographic, insurance and medical information for registrations, admissions and financial purposes. Register patients into the Master Patient Index accurately and maintain a high accuracy rate; manage Real Time Insurance eligibility messages, including adding, removing, correcting, and terminating coverages. Provide patients with necessary regulatory information (HIPAA, Patient Rights, etc.). Consistently registers patients face-to-face; communicate financial responsibilities to patients and collect funds; answer phones courteously and professionally; respond to inquiries and refer calls as appropriate. Independently prioritize PAR workflow (including work queue management, patient registrations, insurance verification, and other tasks) to meet deadlines and maximize productivity; monitor and correct department work queues daily. Demonstrate ability to apply technical knowledge in multiple systems, including Epic-based applications, Meditech, Outlook, TimePC and other administrative systems; utilize necessary online applications (e.g., IXT Copay Collections). Maintain a thorough understanding of downtime and disaster procedures and perform job functions during such conditions. Assist with training and orientation of new staff as needed and under the direction of the Manager. Identify insurance verification issues and take necessary steps to resolve them or inform patients of options. Provide welcoming, empathetic customer service during registration and when providing regulatory information and notices; clearly and professionally communicate with internal and external customers and collaborate with the shift coordinator. Education/Experience

High school diploma or GED. Two years of previous customer service experience. Prior registration or insurance experience in healthcare preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology desirable. Working knowledge of basic computer skills and web-based applications with ability to perform data entry. If serving as a bilingual/multilingual interpreter, certification in Medical Interpretation is required to perform the duties of a qualified interpreter. Required License/Certifications

There is a reasonable expectation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens. Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion greater than sedentary work, the worker sits most of the time.
