Job Summary
Scientist position at Synectics Inc. (North Chicago, IL). The role is within the pharmaceutical development group for new biological entities (NBEs), focusing on antibody drug conjugates (ADC) and other biologics.
Responsibilities
Support and drive process development activities for NBEs.
Maintain and enhance technological equipment to support biologics manufacturing processes.
Maintain and elevate operational excellence in the laboratory.
Collaborate closely with analytical and formulation scientists in an integrated group.
Support process development of parenteral formulations for biologics, with emphasis on ADCs.
Design and execute stability studies of biologics under various conditions (pH, ionic strength, temperature, light, moisture) and screen excipients to develop robust formulations for liquid and lyophilized dosage forms.
Serve as the first point of contact for advanced NBE process technologies, especially filling, filtration, and lyophilization.
Perform continuous mechanical and electrical maintenance of process and laboratory equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and drive trouble‑shooting efforts.
Build strong relationships with other functional units (S&T, combination products, Analytical Development) and provide support and guidance in collaboration with partners.
Optimize laboratory operations to improve time and resource efficiency.
Document experimental data thoroughly in laboratory documentation systems, deliver concise scientific presentations, and author detailed technical reports.
Ensure compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, safety standards, and GXP regulations.
Qualifications
BS or MS in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical, Biological, Engineering, Food Science or related discipline with 4 years of experience (BS) or 0‑2 years of experience (MS) or significant industrial experience.
3‑5 years of relevant industry experience required.
Solid understanding of aseptic manufacturing unit operations (bulk freeze‑thaw, compounding/mixing, filtration, filling, lyophilization) for liquid and lyophilized NBEs.
Experience in laboratory information management systems (ELN) preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Word) required.
Ability to build strong relationships across functions and with external partners.
Fast learner, adept at grasping concepts quickly, and able to pivot as needed.
Ability to raise the performance bar, pursue continuous improvement, and create an environment open to suggestions and experimentation.
Experience troubleshooting drug product processes and leading studies to completion, meeting timelines and objectives.
Industry exposure beyond a research lab is desirable.
Knowledge of documentation best practices for ELN lab notebooks.
Experience using PH meters and viscometers for biologics process development.
