Dr. Edlow’s basic and translational research in the Vincent Center for Reproductive Biology (VCRB) at Massachusetts General Hospital focuses on neurodevelopmental and metabolic programming effects of maternal immune activation in pregnancy. The work involves mouse models and human samples (maternal and cord blood, placenta, breastmilk, among others). The laboratory conducts collaborative, multi-disciplinary research spanning developmental biology, immunology, infectious diseases, metabolism, and neuroscience. Responsibilities
Maintain laboratory equipment, organize and prepare samples, conduct experiments, and record and analyze data. Perform tissue dissection and preservation for RNA and immunohistochemical analyses; execute molecular techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction from tissues, and tissue sectioning and staining as needed. Assist with ongoing research projects studying neurodevelopmental and metabolic programming effects of immune activation in pregnancy and lactation, using both mice and human samples. Learn to independently perform experiments with broad guidance from a supervisor to accomplish laboratory research goals. Document, analyze, and report results from mouse models and patient samples; assist in preparing manuscripts for publication with opportunities for authorship and mentorship. Assist with gathering information for grant preparation and reporting; use basic computer skills (word processing, databases, spreadsheets, email, internet). Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required; candidates may have a grace period for degree verification as specified by policy. Experience: 1-2 years of prior laboratory experience preferred (through coursework, internships, or employment). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques; familiarity with common laboratory equipment; proficiency in data collection and analysis; excellent attention to detail, organization, and multitasking; strong problem-solving and communication skills.
