Job Summary The Payroll Specialist II is responsible for accurate and timely processing of the organization’s semi-monthly payroll. The role provides regular customer service to Relay employees, including education about payroll and Relay’s processes. Presence at the worksite during normal business hours is essential to provide in-person customer service and off-cycle check printing.

Payroll Administration

Timely and accurate processing of semi-monthly payroll for Relay employees

Back up for Senior Payroll Specialist

Review of new hire and rehire employee profile data for completeness and accuracy

Assist with deductions, wage, and tax reconciliations

Semi-monthly timesheet review

Assist with employee garnishment administration and setup

Fulfill requests for payroll advances, check replacements, and termination checks per payroll procedures and policies

Coordinate with Sr. Accountant on payroll checks and electronic payments issued and voided, including stop payments as needed

Administer monthly Union dues and deductions, including reports and payments to unions

Cross-train Payroll Specialist I on all payroll and time attendance activities to ensure coverage during leaves

Other duties as assigned

Compliance & Data Integrity

Prepare separation checks within the time frame mandated by state labor laws

Assist with creating and updating standard operating procedures and checklists for all aspects of payroll administration

Respond to payroll information inquiries from governmental agencies and authorized third parties

Stay current and provide interpretations on various rules, regulations, and policies

Assist Senior Payroll Specialist with quarterly and annual payroll closing, including tax audits and payroll reconciliations

Other

Provide professional, timely customer service to employees, managers, and external stakeholders related to benefits via phone, email, and in-person

Prepare benefits reports for management and vendors as needed

Facilitate cross-departmental communication and collaboration

Requirements Qualifications and Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

2+ years of progressively responsible experience related to payroll

Working knowledge of payroll processing and basic accounting principles

FPC payroll certification required

Effective written and verbal communication skills

Computer literate with a high level of comfort using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of UKG‑Ready payroll and attendance tools

Ability to analyze and interpret data for accuracy

Ability to research laws and regulations

Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

Reconciliation skills
