The Natural Resources Group (NRG), within the Environment & Planning division, seeks a Stewardship Associate for a 12‑week, grant‑funded position. The division protects, restores, and expands NYC parks to maximize environmental and community health. Part‑time schedule available, minimum 2 days.

Major Responsibilities

Support service events, trainings, recruitment, and workshops engaging volunteers and interns in Southeast Queens.

Lead and participate in natural area vegetation management, native plantings, trail work, erosion control, coastal clean‑ups, street tree care, and other service projects throughout New York City.

Manage and supervise volunteers and interns in forests, wetlands, and streets; instruct proper project techniques and equipment care.

Support community engagement and planning efforts for public and private events facilitated by the Stewardship team.

Update and maintain records, prepare written reports, and track participant recruitment and engagement progress in Excel and ArcGIS.

Assist in registration and leading volunteers at events as assigned.

Facilitate and enhance train‑the‑trainer options to broaden volunteer opportunities.

Duration: 12 weeks, Expected Start: Nov. 2025.

Work Location: Idlewild Park, Queens.

Fees: Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee of $68.00. Candidates not currently employed by the City will also be subject to a $101.25 background check fee.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent and at least three years of experience in community work or related activities.

Preferred Skills

Valid New York State driver license.

Ability to work weekends and occasional evenings.

Experience working with volunteers, students, or interns.

Knowledge of native and invasive plants and local ecology.

Ability to work under adverse conditions (heat, inclement weather, wet conditions).

Excellent interpersonal skills, working independently and as part of a team.
