Infection Control and Staff Development Nurse (RN)

Wellspring Lutheran Services is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to serving seniors, families and children throughout Michigan. We are currently seeking a Staff Development and Infection Control Nurse to join our nursing team at our Covenant Skilled Nursing & Rehab Campus in Saginaw. In this combination role, you will support nursing leadership, oversee staff development and infection control initiatives, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centered care in a collaborative environment. Responsibilities

Provide quality nursing care to residents in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice, and individuality. Provide coverage for MDS Coordinators to ensure the continuity of the MDS process. Survey and direct infection control practices across all departments to maintain compliance and best practices. Track and document all residents with nosocomial infections and monitor community-acquired infections. Map and track infections geographically and by contact to identify trends and areas of concern. Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Services (DCS) and Medical Director to problem-solve and prevent the transmission of infections among residents and staff, with focused attention on VRE, MRSA, and C. difficile. Provide ongoing education to staff to ensure infection prevention, proper treatment protocols, and compliance with best practices. Investigate infection trends, conduct root cause analyses, and prepare written reports with corrective actions. Work closely with the Medical Director and physicians to ensure appropriate antibiotic use and dosing, reducing unnecessary antibiotic exposure. File all OSHA reports related to bloodborne pathogen exposures in accordance with regulations. Oversee the TB exposure and screening program for residents, staff, and volunteers, as well as the N95 “FIT” testing process. Coordinate the IV Team to ensure consistency and quality in resident-centered care delivery. Lead and facilitate the new employee orientation process for nursing and clinical staff. Ensure all required initial and annual inoculations for residents, employees, and volunteers are tracked, completed, and properly documented Assist with development of skills fairs and other approaches to staff development and education Ensure that yearly education is completed as required by regulations for all employees Assist DRC and DCS to research best practice and develop educational presentations on specific approaches needed to respond to resident care requirements (this will increase as we care for higher acuity and more MED A residents) As applicable, oversee the Home For the Aged services including, admission and ongoing assessment process, completion of MMSE and care/service plan in collaboration with other departments, and management of resident and family relations; assure residents receive appropriate care and that the level of care is clearly identified and reported to resident/family and billing clerk Participate in weekend on-call for coverage of nursing services (rotation) Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Michigan Board of Nursing. Infection Control Certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification upon hire. Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience; long-term care or sub-acute experience preferred. Graduate of an accredited nursing program (required); BSN preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Knowledge of infection prevention, staff education, and quality assurance best practices. Employment type: Full-time, Monday–Friday, Day Shift (8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) On-Call: Participation in rotating on-call schedule required. Starting salary: $80,000 – $85,000 per year, based on experience, licensure, and certifications. Benefits
