$106,114.00/yr - $196,617.00/yr Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval - award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. United States Citizenship Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy English Language Proficiency Psychologists must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 - Part II - Chapter 3 - section A - paragraph 3j Education: Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) - the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) - or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed For the purpose of meeting this requirement, the term "specialty area" refers to the specific specialty areas recognized by the accrediting body and not to specific job duties that might require special skills APA accredits doctoral programs in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology, or combinations of those areas PCSAS accredits doctoral programs in psychological clinical science CPA accredits doctoral programs in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, clinical neuropsychology, and school psychology There are no job assignments in VHA that require the skills of a school psychologist; therefore, an applicant with a degree in school psychology is not eligible Or (2) Have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and successfully complete a re-specialization program (including an approved internship) meeting both of the following conditions: (a) completed in an APA or CPA accredited program; (b) the retrained specialty is consistent with the assignment Official transcript and/or certificate documenting completion of the re-specialization program (including internship) Psychologists who completed a re-specialization program and were employed by the VA prior to this standard are considered to have met educational requirements Or (3) Have a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution with a psychology-related dissertation Internships: Must have completed an APA- or CPA-accredited internship or meet allowable alternatives as described Licensure: Hold a full, current, unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a U.S. state, territory, or commonwealth Exceptions: Non-licensed applicants who meet eligibility may be temporary graduate psychologists for up to two years under supervision Board Certification and Loss of Credential: Maintain board certification if applicable and ongoing continuing education Grandfathering Provision may apply for current VA employees in this occupation Duties
Provide mental health services in an oncology setting as part of the Mental Health Integration within the Oncology program Act as a colocated, collaborative, and integrated care mental health provider for oncology services Deliver brief, evidence-based interventions, education, and consultation to Veterans with cancer and to specialty medical providers and allied team members Collaborate with specialty medical team members to support high-quality, coordinated service delivery; maintain open access slots and facilitate same-day warm handoffs Use Measurement-Based Care (MBC) following national guidelines; coordinate suicide risk assessments and interventions within the specialty medical setting Conduct focused functional assessments (about 30 minutes) aligned with referral reasons Support stepped-care principles to match service intensity with clinical need; refer to appropriate mental health programs as needed Provide a full range of psychological interventions aligned with training and expertise, with emphasis on brief, evidence-based approaches Engage in interdisciplinary team activities, including team huddles, and provide education on mental health and health behavior issues Integrate into routine workflow and offer expertise to support team-based care; participate in ad hoc discussions as needed Accept and encourage same-day warm handoffs; provide timely feedback to team members May provide clinical supervision to trainees seeking licensure in psychology Schedule: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday (subject to facility needs) Recruitment incentives: Not Authorized; Relocation: Not Authorized; EDRP: Authorized for eligible participants Contact EDRP Coordinator for questions Salary information and pay practices: Competitive salary with potential step increases based on qualifications Benefits: Paid time off, parental leave, childcare subsidy eligibility, federal retirement and insurance programs; telework options available but not a virtual position Functional Statement numbers and PCS information as applicable Seniority level
