RWJBarnabas Health, one of New Jersey's largest and most comprehensive health care systems, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Real Estate Attorney with 5 to 7 years of experience in commercial leasing to join our Legal Department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing the legal aspects of commercial real estate transactions, including lease negotiations, drafting, and advising on matters related to real estate law within the healthcare sector, Reports to
The Associate Counsel, Commercial Leasing, will report directly to Assistant General Counsel, Real Estate Qualifications
5 to 7 years of experience in commercial leasing and real estate law, ideally with a focus on healthcare real estate required Juris Doctor from an accredited law school required Admission to the New Jersey State Bar or eligibility for in-house counsel registration in New Jersey required Strong knowledge of New Jersey real estate laws, regulations, and industry best practices Experience negotiating, drafting, and reviewing commercial leases and related real estate documents Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-legal professionals Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to think strategically High degree of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential matters Knowledge of healthcare law, regulations, and compliance issues is preferred Knowledge of tax appeals, construction law and AIA forms is preferred Key Job Responsibilities
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial leases, subleases, amendments, and other real estate-related agreements. Provide advice and support related to real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and leasing of the organization s properties. Advise internal stakeholders, including property managers, finance teams, and Senior leadership, on legal matters regarding property and leasing transactions. Review and interpret lease terms, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies. Collaborate with outside counsel, brokers, and third-party vendors as needed to facilitate lease transactions and resolve issues. Handle legal aspects of property management, including lease disputes, renewals, and terminations. Support the development of standard lease templates and policies to streamline real estate processes. Manage and oversee real estate due diligence processes in connection with acquisitions, divestitures, or other corporate transactions. Stay current on developments in real estate law, particularly within the healthcare sector, and advise the department accordingly. Provide legal support for the organization s facility expansion and renovation projects, including reviewing contracts and regulatory compliance. Provide support to the real estate team. Other Duties
