Overview

Physician (Family Practice), GS-14 at Indian Health Service (IHS). This role supports delivering patient-centered care to American Indian and Alaska Native communities, with a focus on making a meaningful impact through medical practice and service. Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive, patient-centered medical care including evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute, chronic, and preventive health needs within Family Practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, effective, and coordinated care. Perform specialty-specific diagnostic, therapeutic, and/or surgical procedures consistent with training and credentialing. Contribute to teaching, mentorship, and professional development of medical staff, students, and trainees. Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical innovation initiatives to advance healthcare delivery. Qualifications

Basic Requirement(s) Degree:

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or equivalent from a US or Canadian school, accredited by relevant bodies (e.g., AMA, AAMC, LCME, COCA) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Medical School:

If applicable, must provide evidence of equivalency to US-accredited schools (e.g., ECFMG certification, fifth pathway, or USMLE completion). Licensure:

Current, active, full, and unrestricted physician license or registration in a US state, DC, Puerto Rico, or a US territory. Graduate Training:

At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience after medical degree (internship or first year of residency) in programs accredited by US/Canada bodies. Residency/fellowship descriptions include internship, residency, and fellowship programs as defined by ACGME/AMA. Minimum Qualifications (GS-14):

4 years of graduate training in the specialty or equivalent experience and training. Applicants may be tentatively qualified if actively completing a required professional training program expected to be completed within 9 months of applying. Selective Factor (SF):

Must meet agency-wide SF for Physician positions with clinical specialty, including board certification or active pursuit of board certification within the past 3 years. Other requirements:

Obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges; pass E-Verify; undergo background investigation; potential credit check; and meet all suitability requirements. Additional information

Public Law 101-630 designation affecting contact with Indian children. Immunization and health policy considerations may apply per facility guidance. Full background investigation and suitability determinations are required; falsification can lead to removal from Federal service. Education verification and transcripts: unofficial transcripts accepted at application; official transcripts required prior to offer. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized with a service agreement. Student loan repayment programs may be available (IHS NHSC HRSA) and are competitive.
