Vice President of Finance

Berkshire Health Systems is the leading provider of comprehensive healthcare services for residents and visitors to Berkshire County. From inpatient surgery and cancer care to provider visits and imaging, BHS offers a continuum of programs and services that help patients access the care they need, no matter where they are located in the rural Berkshire community. BHS supports 24-hour emergency care at its two inpatient acute care facilities, Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) in Pittsfield and Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington, as well as the Satellite Emergency Facility on the BMC campus in North Adams. Ultimately, BHS offers its broad range of services at 28 provider clinics with 51 office locations across the county. As the largest employer in Berkshire County, BHS supports more than 4,000 jobs in the region, and, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, BHS is committed to partnering with local municipalities and community organizations to help the county thrive. The Position
The Vice President, Finance is a key leadership role for BHS and will provide leadership and vision for finance function initiatives across the two hospitals and related enterprises. The Vice President, Finance will work to establish credibility as a savvy finance executive who understands BHS’s mission. The role will assess the current financial systems and organization and will work with the senior management team to ensure that the current structure and business direction are well-aligned with the organization’s strategy. The Vice President, Finance will be part of the senior management team and will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of BHS. The Finance department is organized functionally and provides centralized services for the system. There are currently 32 FTEs in the department. The Region
Pittsfield enjoys the distinction as the “City of Festivals.” It is placed in the heart of the Berkshires and is the largest city in the area, offering cultural and recreational amenities. Pittsfield has a variety of concert series, art, culture, nightlife, dining, lodging, a professional baseball team, and multiple parks. The area provides four-season outdoor activities including hiking, skiing, swimming, boating, and mountain biking. The Berkshires offer several ski resorts, rivers and lakes for outdoor activities. Permanent housing options in the Berkshires are diverse and relatively affordable compared with more urban or suburban regions of New England and the greater New York area. A variety of excellent public and private schools are available in the region. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; MBA or Master’s degree preferred. CPA certification strongly preferred. Minimum 10 years of progressive financial leadership, with at least 5 years in a nonprofit healthcare environment (e.g., hospital, health system, or community health organization). Deep understanding of nonprofit finance, healthcare reimbursement, and regulatory compliance. Proven ability to align financial management with mission and community health goals. Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with business applications, financial systems and healthcare analytics tools (e.g. Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word; Meditech, Strata/Syntellis or similar).
