Job Description The Environmental Business Line of AECOM is seeking an
Entry‑Level Environmental Scientist/Asbestos and Lead Inspector
for immediate employment with the EHS Department in the
Germantown, MD office . The main responsibility of the successful candidate will be to perform hazardous building materials surveys (asbestos, lead paint, etc.) and prepare the associated survey reports, as well as perform abatement oversight. The candidate will work under the supervision of a project manager or senior‑level team member. Work will involve field and office tasks and may require travel out‑of‑town for durations ranging from one week to three months, as needed.
Responsibilities
Conduct field studies and collect environmental samples for analysis
Perform data analysis and interpret results using statistical methods
Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations on environmental findings
Utilize GIS software to create maps and analyze spatial data
Assist in environmental impact assessments and pollution control projects
Support the creation of environmental management plans and conservation strategies
Design and execute experiments to assess environmental quality and ecosystem health
Develop and maintain databases for environmental data management and analysis
Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures for field and laboratory work
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent education or experience
U.S. citizenship required
Medical clearance required
Valid Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience interacting with architects and engineers on fast‑paced building renovation designs requiring asbestos/hazardous materials program requirements
Certifications: OSHA 40‑Hour HAZWOPER, EPA AHERA Asbestos Inspector, EPA Asbestos Management Planner, EPA Asbestos Project Designer, EPA Asbestos Supervisor, EPA Lead Inspector Technician; state‑specific licenses for asbestos
Industrial hygiene and indoor air quality experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; highly effective organization and multi‑tasking skills
Previous asbestos experience
Ability to perform field surveys independently and produce written deliverables in the office

Compensation Offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The range for this position is $51,000 to $68,000 per year.
