Baystate Health is a not-for-profit, integrated healthcare system in western Massachusetts which consists of an academic medical center, Baystate Children’s Hospital, three community hospitals and the region’s largest multispecialty group. Our flagship hospital, Baystate Medical Center, is home to the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School-Baystate. Baystate Children’s Hospital is a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center with subspecialists across 15 pediatric divisions. Our 107-bed facility includes the region’s only PICU and level III NICU, as well as a designated 24-hour pediatric ED and outpatient specialty services.

Responsibilities

PROVIDE LEADERSHIP:

Implement strategy for operations, safety, quality, and recruitment/retention.

Partner with key stakeholders to solve problems and facilitate the success of the program and team well-being.

Understand and monitor the division’s budget, implement goals, and assume stewardship of all financial operations.

Participate as part of the senior leadership team in departmental and children’s hospital strategy and decision making.

Model courage and respect and foster a sense of inclusion and belonging.

Promote an environment of accountability, innovation, and agility, allowing the division to be responsive and adaptable to meeting the healthcare needs of our patients in an ever-changing landscape.

Academic Excellence

Lead engagement in medical education (peds, med-peds and EM residents, 4th year medical students).

Support our new ACGME accredited pediatric hospital medicine fellowship program.

Guide and monitor the academic advancement of faculty.

Cultivate and facilitate clinical and QI research initiatives.

Clinical Best Practices

Lead high reliability organization-culture of safety, quality and performance improvement.

Work with a well-established team of 13 pediatric hospitalists and 3 APPs in our 53-bed general pediatric and adolescent unit. All patients are resident-covered; no NICU, PICU or overnight in-house coverage. Division covers the newborn nursery service.

Qualifications

Board certification in pediatrics with board certification in pediatric hospital medicine desirable.

7+ years’ experience with evidence of progressive management responsibilities and leadership in an academic department.

Faculty appointment to UMass Chan Medical School-Baystate commensurate with experience.

Compensation The compensation range below represents the base salaries for all positions at a given grade across the health system. Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate’s relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees. Minimum= $185,500. Maximum= $315,000.
