Position Summary
Employers Council is seeking an Employment Attorney to join our team. The attorney will counsel employers on complex employment law matters, including discrimination, harassment, wage and hour, family leave, disability accommodations, and related state and federal statutes. The role requires a practical, solution‑driven approach, strong client‑service orientation, and the ability to work independently while building relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Advise and counsel employers on multiple and complex legal issues such as performance documentation, discipline, termination, layoffs, employment agreements, non‑compete and confidentiality agreements.
Build strong relationships with members through regular phone, virtual, and in‑person communication, ensuring member confidence in Employers Council’s employment law expertise.
Evaluate, analyze, and represent EEO/Civil Rights claims, including drafting position statements and participating in agency proceedings.
Advise on compliance with wage and hour, Title VII, ADA, FMLA, Workers Compensation, and state anti‑discrimination statutes.
Support member engagement through assessments, strategy meetings, and identification of opportunities for additional services or membership adjustments.
Represent employers in administrative hearings, including unemployment and wage claims.
Create and update member resources such as white papers, policies, agreements, webinars, and website articles.
Prepare and deliver live and virtual training on topics such as harassment, EEO law, termination, wage and hour, FMLA, disability law, and performance documentation.
Conduct employee handbook reviews, propose presentations to industry groups, and attend community events.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Education
J.D. and Colorado Bar admission required; multistate licensure or willingness to obtain is a plus.
1–3 years of employment law experience preferred.
Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities.
Proficiency with legal research platforms (e.g., Westlaw).
Experience representing employers in state and federal agency proceedings preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to foster relationships and provide customer service.
Training and/or public speaking experience highly preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Must reside in Colorado within commuting distance of the Denver office.
Occasional travel may be required.
