Overview
The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled analysis, repair, and maintenance tasks at an advanced level on electronic controls, telemetry, electrical systems, and related equipment for the Gas Department. Positions may be subject to 24-hour call. Responds to emergency calls during inclement weather or other emergencies. Plans and organizes the inspection, maintenance, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment, machinery, and related components of the gas. Maintains, tests, repairs, adjusts, and calibrates flow meters, reliefs, regulators, digital control valves, meters, and stations in accordance with state and federal mandates. Participates in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) for the gas distribution. Participates in the maintenance, testing, repair, adjusting and calibration of meters, analyzers and chemical/odorant feed equipment; repairs pumps, valves, chemical treatment equipment and related items. Performs related technical tasks; repairs electrically operated valves; tests, calibrates and repairs relaying and monitoring devices. Maintains and repairs telemetry systems. Provides technical assistance on additions and modifications to electrical systems. Inspects, supervises and participates in the work performed by contractors. Reads, interprets and updates schematics, blueprints and wiring diagrams of existing motor control apparatuses and related equipment. Ensures sufficient allocation of personnel, equipment and materials to perform the work required in a safe manner; oversees the method used to maintain safety procedures; ensures the use of protective devices and equipment, where indicated. May have supervisory responsibility over subordinates performing related work. Performs related administrative tasks; prepares and reviews technical reports and purchase order requests; participates in receiving, inspection, reordering, storing and issuance of parts and supplies; prepares and processes necessary paperwork required by department policy or procedure. Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies in order to complete work assignments: operates and maintains Volt meter, 4 -20 milliamp calibrator, Meg meter, basic mechanic tools, and other equipment or power equipment as needed to complete essential functions. Communicates with superintendent, production manager, general manager, SCADA operators, plant operators, supervisor, other employees, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Two (2) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of electronic systems/electrical equipment, preferably in area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Will be required to obtain and maintain specialized certifications and/or training as deemed necessary. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment and maintain throughout employment for this classification. Will be required to obtain a valid State of Louisiana Class D driver’s license within one month of hire.
Gas Department will be required to obtain certifications as required by the Office of Pipeline Safety within six months of hire as well as any other certifications as deemed necessary.
