Job Summary We are looking for a hands‑on and highly technical Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead and execute research and development and commercially deployable projects from concept to scale‑up. This role entails directly contributing to efforts in the evaluation of reactors, combustors, burners, pressure vessels, frames and structures, and other high temperature and pressurized components and systems, operating in ammonia and hydrogen environments. You will work closely with cross‑functional engineering teams to design, analyse, integrate, and test reactor and separation technologies for Amogy's next‑generation power solutions. This role requires a deep technical background in the mechanical and thermal design and analysis of systems related to technologies experiencing high temperature operation. Candidates should have a proven track‑record of applying engineering principles to successful and robust product designs and a track‑record of project and team leadership and developing and training engineers into productive contributors, as well as establishing and driving team adherence to engineering standards, best practices, and work processes.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and optimisation of mechanical structures and assemblies for ammonia cracking and separation systems.

Spearhead designs from concept through launch, including detailed 3D modelling, material selection, stress analysis, design for manufacturing and assembly, equipment selection, and detailed design engineering drawing generation.

Coordinate with cross‑functional teams, including FEA/CFD analysis and modelling, manufacturing, process, and testing teams, to complete project objectives.

Own/track project schedules/budgets for internal teams and external suppliers.

Establish, optimise, and maintain mechanical engineering design practices, frameworks, and best‑practices.

Define and maintain mechanical requirements for various high temperature devices.

Provide day‑to‑day technical mentorship and training for mechanical engineers, technologists, and technicians.

Qualifications

BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of professional experience or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 6+ years of professional experience in energy, aerospace, automotive, or related field.

3+ years of prior experience in leading projects for technical teams.

Deep understanding of structural and thermal analysis principles and fundamentals, parametric modelling, manufacturing methods, and the overall product development process.

Prior experience designing and testing welded pressure vessels and heat transfer equipment and developing high‑temperature systems such as reactors, engines, or turbines.

Proven track record of excellence in structural and thermal finite element analysis (FEA), applied to real‑world problems in aerospace, automotive, maritime, nuclear, or similar applications.

Experience in applying standards and code to designs (e.g. ASMEJBPVC Sections 11 D, Ill. V, Vill Div 1 and 2; NFPA 86; ASTM. AWS). Proficiency/experience in all codes is not required.

Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T per AMSE Y 14.5 2018).

Proficiency in use of 2D/3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) modelling software packages (e.g. SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor).

Previously taken one or more hardware products from concept to commercialisation.

Excellent organisational skills and proactivity in finding solutions to complex problems.

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and communicate timely updates to internal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

MS in Mechanical Engineering with 12 years of professional experience or PhD in Mechanical Engineering with 8+ years of professional experience in energy, aerospace, automotive, or related field.

Expertise in use of ABAQUS, SIMULIA, or ANSYS.

5+ years of prior experience in leading projects or technical teams.

Experience in optimising thermal solutions for mechanical equipment subject to creep and fatigue.

Working knowledge of combustion principles and catalytic process technology.
