Salary (Monthly): $4,562.00
Salary (Annually): $54,744.00
Qualifications Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in forestry or a similar natural resource curriculum that includes dendrology, forest measurements, silviculture, and forest management.
Experience: Two (2) years of professional forestry, wildlife, natural resources, or any related work experience equivalent to the education and experience requirements.
Substitution of Education for Experience: Graduate course work in forestry, wildlife, natural resources, or any related work may substitute for required experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of one (1) year of experience.
Special Qualifications
Possess and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license (where applicable).
Possess and maintain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification (where applicable).
Pass a physical fitness test for participation in wildland and prescribed fire activities (where applicable).
Examination Method Education and Experience, 100%, for Preferred Service positions.
Responsibilities
Supervise subordinates by conducting performance evaluations, managing time and schedules, and coordinating daily activities such as fire prevention, facility maintenance, forestry programs, state forest activities, and vendor services.
Develop and interpret forest management plan information, defining site index, basal area, soil information, and other variables to support sound forest management decisions.
Interpret and communicate regulations to government agencies and citizens regarding state forest rules and burning law regulations to increase compliance and understanding.
Assist urban and community partners in developing urban forest management plans, providing technical assistance for urban forest health concerns, and facilitating urban forestry incentive programs.
Assist in wildland fire response, prescribed fire application, and all‑hazard incidents.
Collect and analyze forest inventory data including tree/site data, landowner information, invasive/exotic species, and pathogen information.
Conduct timber sale administration activities while ensuring compliance with all state policies and proper disposal of state property.
Monitor logging activities and perform water quality checks on public and private land, ensuring compliance with best management practices and related regulations.
Use GIS software to analyze spatial data, develop mapping products, create forest management plans, and manage data for reporting.
Attend required training and obtain/maintain certifications such as safety, firefighting, and pesticide application.
Required Documents
Copy of Forestry transcript or similar natural resource curriculum that includes dendrology, forest measurements, silviculture, and forest management.
Driver’s License information (valid driver’s license; for the past five years, no record of DUI, reckless driving, license suspension, or more than four moving violations).
