Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm (Standby on Rotation)

Expected Starting Hourly Range:

$27.61 - $34.51

This classification performs a variety of advanced technical duties related to operating, maintaining, installing and troubleshooting instrumentation, process control and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for the County's wastewater treatment plants or lift stations.

Responsibilities

Facilitate and perform the implementation, coordination, supervision and maintenance of the SCADA network.

Configure, document and program automation and control systems.

Own all control aspects of in-house projects including design, programming, simulation, testing and start-up.

Perform general electrical work such as programming VFDs, troubleshooting motor control panels and pulling wire as needed.

Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of instrumentation in waste/water treatment plants, lift stations and related facilities.

Calibrate instrumentation using standard procedures and portable calibration equipment.

Install, repair, maintain and configure radio telemetry and related control systems for lift stations, monitoring wells and elevated tanks.

Diagnose and repair field instrumentation (e.g., flow meters, pressure transmitters, level sensors, pH, chlorine, ammonia analyzers, etc.).

Bench-test radio equipment and provide training to new instrument technicians, electricians and mechanics as required.

Complete related records, drawings, sketches and schematics; assist in emergency/extreme weather duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in electronics, instrumentation and controls required.

Minimum of five (5) years' experience in repair, inspection, adjustment and calibration of electronic controls and instrumentation.

Valid driver license; Florida Driver License within 30 days of hire.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

PLC & HMI programming, instrumentation, computer science and industrial controls highly desired.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of SCADA systems and preventative/corrective maintenance of electrical, electronic, pneumatic and other instrumentation components in water/wastewater facilities.

Knowledge of PLC/SCADA programming (Rockwell RSLogix 500, PanelView, DeviceNet; Citect; Siemens; DFS) and related databases (ODBC, SQL, Excel).

Knowledge of networking, wireless communications, fiber optics and related standards.

Knowledge of 4-20mA, HART, VFDs, soft-start programming, and telemetry systems.

Ability to read/interpret control schematics, diagrams, blueprints and single-line drawings; ladder logic and structured text experience preferred.

Ability to work inside and outside in variable conditions; lift up to 50 lbs; operate in emergencies and standby schedules.

Ability to read color and distinguish colors as needed for wiring and labeling.

Licenses & Preferences

Valid Florida driver license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Veterans Preference as applicable per Florida Statute 295.07, with documentation as required.

Other Requirements

Ability to work in extreme conditions, including confined spaces and presence of wastewater; ability to work after hours and standby as needed.

Must be able to operate/drive a vehicle and work around medium to high voltage equipment as required.
