Practice in genetics for pediatric patients in a rapidly growing academic teaching clinic with guidance and supervision from a board‑certified geneticist. In addition to patient care, actively teach medical students and residents. Clinical responsibilities will include a mix of inpatient consults, telemedicine, and clinic. Contribute to the administrative activities of the Genetics division, including involvement with state funding for the newborn screening lab’s medical directorship. Qualifications
MD or DO degree or foreign equivalent and eligibility for a state medical license. Completed a pediatric residency program. Board certified or board eligible in pediatrics; all qualifications must be met by the time of appointment. Previous experience in genetics is not required. In-practice training will be provided by our geneticist and genetic counselors; opportunities to attend national conferences in genetics and metabolism (e.g., ACMG, ASHG). For those pursuing formal certification in clinical genetics, a stipend is provided during a two‑year fellowship in exchange for a commitment to return to WVU. About WVU Medicine and the Division
The West Virginia University Health System is the state’s largest health system and largest employer, comprising 18 hospitals, five institutes, and management services for other local hospitals through affiliate agreements. The Division of Genetics is a robust program expanding access to genetic services regionally and to neighboring states. The team includes metabolic dietitians, genetic counselors, genetic nurse practitioners, and one clinical geneticist. Our 150‑bed Children’s Hospital features pediatric ORs, a cardiac catheterization lab, GI‑endoscopy with pediatric anesthesia, 34 pediatric beds, 54 NICU beds, 26 PICU beds, a Heart Center, and a dedicated Cancer Center. WVU Medicine Children’s is a Level 2 Pediatric Trauma Center with plans to become Level 1 for both pediatric and adult care. There is also a Birthing Center with a 30‑bed obstetrical unit and maternal‑fetal medicine clinic. J. W. Ruby Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in West Virginia with a pediatric cardiac surgery program, the only epilepsy monitoring unit in the state for children, and the only hospital in the state to receive Magnet status for nursing excellence. Location and Travel
Position to practice in Morgantown, WV, with potential periodic outreach clinics in Charleston, Huntington, Martinsburg, Princeton, Summersville, and/or Vienna. Compensation and Benefits
